PSA use ranged items
dont sleep on ranged items it makes a lot of the harder sections a lot more bearable and changes annoying areas to easy areas
the way ranged items scale is pretty good too
also does anyone else find magic to be really underwhelming compared to ranged items?

Yeah there are only a handful or 3 spells in the game but at least they feel meaningful.
I feel there are too many spells in Elden Ring/Souls that are useless for the most part.

I like the Throwing Axes, Poison Javelins, and Crossbows. The refillable ammo counter is a real nice touch that helps ensure that even pure/mostly ranged builds can succeed in the game fairly well.

I have the ENHANCED lacerating knives, they do more damage than my weapons... I also use poison javelins to DOT the big bad enemies and just let them melt for 2/3rds their hp

So far only gotten to really use the starting fire spell...

Then i equipped a ring that let me fire the piercing version of the starter holy spell and that for some reason hit's harder.

enhanced lump hammer is really insane, but the most insane thing of all is umbral eye of lydia the numb witch. it lets you use ranged weapons (including throwables) without ammo by taking wither dmg, but the wither is very small and it instantly gets healed when your throwable hits something anyway. this eye basically lets you play as a pure throwable build which is crazy since throwables scale well without needing to be upgraded and have really generous range.

i deliberately avoided using eye of lydia until i at least beat the game once since i knew it would be too busted. with the dmg and stagger dmg per stamina cost, safety, and ease of hitting multiple times (since you dont even need to close distance or worry about hitboxes), spamming throwables is just stronger than attacking with weapons.

Do you take splash damage from your own grenades? If anyone know it would be helpful. if not ill test tomorrow and report back

I don't think so, I tried to use the fire grenade to light the campfire for that one NPC in the cold area like an idiot throwing it at my feet because I didn't notice the popup to light it and I wasn't taking damage.
Ummm... I dunno. Lighting bolt is pretty insane with it's stagger, spammability, and fire&forget features.

Some magic spells are definitely underwhelming, but others are OP as hell. Half the shouts are garbage, the auras take way too much mana that might be viable if you do a few playthroughs for multiple nartuns. But

Infernal: Magma Surge, Seismic Slam, Conflagration, and Infernal Hounds are all amazing
Umbral: Latimer's Javelin and Umbral Orb are amazing for killing. The only issue is clipping in this game is horrible. There are areas where Javelin will ALWAYS just blow up in front of you.
Radiant: I haven't used this much but in PvP I see people using what I think is Briar Storm and it always wrecks cause you are just dodging the entire time to get away from it and you run out of stamina.

Yeah noticed that the manse of hallowed borthers has a few buildings where spells and throws will blow up in your hand if you spam it.
