Gerlinde is the best choice. If you are going for 3 endings do radiance and inferno endings first and give it to Gerlinde both times. Then do Umbral 3rd and give it to sparky.

Agree with D. Flame - Give it to Gerlinde on at least one of the radiance or inferno ending runs to get the rune but give it to sparky for umbral ending runs.

Also, you can only get Gerlinde's special rune 1 time, meaning if you do NG+ for a 2nd rune, you will not get 2nd one.

I still give it to Gerlinde, bought and upgrade everything I need and fed her to the Mother.

Then I move on to NG+0. Eventually, when I am bored I will do NG+

FYI ,she turns him into the rune you get,do with that info what ever you like.
