Longswords and greatswords get much further reach and damage than daggers, which gives them the ability to easily hit multiple enemies at once.
I am unaware of any exceptions to this no matter the weapon used. In tight quarters use a double handed grip, even more important the longer your weapon's reach.
The issue at that point is why ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bother with daggers at all then? Or even fists, they get it worse as two handing them just makes them dual-wielded, thus, they bounce off walls. It's just idiotic that daggers and fists have no range and a lack of damage for... no real benefits in combat.
