Stuck on where to go (sort of)

So I have just beat JUDGE CLERIC and had no idea where to go, so I looked at a guide and it says I now have to go to Upper Calrath via a shortcut I opened earlier which I get to from skyrest bridge. That's fine I know where to go now, what's bothering me is how was I supposed to know that? Did I miss some dialogue or a note or something?

It's the only other known path into upper carlath.

But yeah they could have made it clearer that it's opened by itself from to say Ebb, since He tries to steal the iron wayfarers lamp there and flees out the door, opening it if you didn't.
