Pyric Cultist Early Playthrough Issues
Just got passed the hushed saint. I have three inferno spells at the moment: adyr's rage, conflagration, and infernal orb.
Conflagration is next to useless as you have to channel it which does not work in a game like this at all. By the time it starts channeling I have to dodge. Please rework this spell.

At 30 inferno, infernal orb does practically no damage. Without Adyr's Rage buff, it does a wapping 90ish damage. With the buff, about 100ish. Next to useless against any boss I fought so far, to the point where I didn't even bother casting spells and just used the cultist staff.

I love playing caster classes and caster/melee hybrids, but this just doesn't feel good. I'm going to keep slogging through to see if it gets any better, but it's not looking good.

The game devs specifically stated that inferno spells are weaker in the beginning of the game, its an advanced class for a reason. sounds like you made some tough choices dude, cause you dont get good inferno spells until the zone after ur current one. gl

game balancing issues. Lack of proper spell and enemy distribution, game has mainly 3 factions of mobs and devs decided to make inferno an early zone which is also when we actually gain access to more inferno spells. Literally bad level design and planning overall

Souls never had this issue because your spells still do decent damage to it's own "typing" and mob types are evenly spread out. They don't just put 100% fire resist enemies in a fire zone.

I've already done one playthrough for the Radiance ending and enjoyed it, but thanks for your input.

All good inferno spells are available nearly mid-late game (or end game). Yeah you are likely to play as melee build with buf spells for some time. If you want to play as a caster, I recommend you to switch to Umbral (Radiance + Inferno)

Early on you can buy a few spells from Damarose, you also can release the Tortured Prisoner from below the Skyrest (she becomes a merchant right in front of the Pieta bossfight arena) and that's about all I can think of.
Closer to mid game you get more options but still...

Radiance is so much better than inferno early game, it's unreal. I just beat spurned progeny on my inferno guy and things are looking up now. Flame hammer spell, new catalyst, fallen lord sword all at the same time. Good stuff.

Although bloodlust is really good. I'm using it and the flayed axe for fire and bleed buildup.

The starter catalyst is not great. The head cage dude can drop a good radiance catalyst but I haven't seen the same for pyro.

Also pyro spells are resisted by most enemies.

I just farmed 2x Mangler Axe and went to town. The dinky starter fireball did alot of work.
Later on obviously everything became extremely powerful. Resistant mobs or not.

The fireball(s) puts in work, that it moves in an arc alone has made it my preferred filler. No more pesky "aiming", just lock on and youre ready to rock

One thing that pissed me off while playing my Pyric Cultist was though
finding a literal "Pyric Cultist Flail" that doesn't even have any inferno scaling whatsoever.
I really wanted to use that thing.
I hope when the devs come around to balance passes, they gonna adjust that thing accordingly.

the flamethrower spell shines when facing large groups of slow enemies, and make certain that you upgrade your catalyst.
Early Inferno runs if you don't have Lord unlocked, aren't super fun IMO.
Not because Inferno is bad, but due to how sporadically placed your spells will be.
Lord at least starts with decent STR and a strong Inferno/STR weapon. Which, funny enough, a lot of the best Inferno weapons are also STR/INF...

See, the problem here is not that its an advanced spell. Its that the spells that are decent are locked to end game almost.
Whereas Umbral and Radiance gets INSANE spells super fast.

i've only reached past spurned progeny, but dual wielded fiery mangler axes w/ the wolf helm at least makes me feel like some kind of war shaman

I basically made a Sauron build on PS5.
Umbral spells, a Sword and a Infernal flail. Its freaking absurd.

That's why I wanted to use the damn thing and get a 2nd one in NG.
Larping as a W40k chaos cultist, literally flailing about, mumbling about Khorneflakes and headbanging to music that isn't there.
