Lords of the Fallen has one of the most generous side-step / dodge rolls in recent memory. The amount of i-frames granted by those moves is incredible and failing to dodge attack patterns once known to you just means this type of game is not for you.
Try dodging in Lies of P and you will realize how good you have it in LotF.
Or like every DS vet would say: Git gud.
Dodging is 100% fine.
Sometimes its better to don't lock on to get the roll, f.e. with the fire giant guy.
