I almost got turned off by the idea of nonfromsoft soulslikes cause of the original when it came out but this is night and day difference. There's like callbacks and ♥♥♥♥ to the original but that'sa bout it I'd say. It still has it's issues but cannot be compared to that other lords of the fallen if that's your bigggest worry.
Figured it was the name lol.
Probably the biggest difference is that he first one was very linear with many cutscenes, but the new one is open and full of exploration like dark souls 1.
The new lords of the fallen has hit the same top 5 standing as the old one for me. Improved in every way, but only diminished in awful dev choices.
It's more in the direction of DS1 & DS2, while the combat is not that slow and clunky. Currently many people complain about too much enemies and punishing area traversal. The devs want to reduce enemies density in further patches and later want to add more options.
If you are the type of player, who rushes through the level and try to wing it on the fly, you will probably hate it. It's more a game, where you should meticulously go through the area, search for hidden loot and shortcuts and expect ambushes behind every corner.
It's also not so overwhelming regarding boss fights.
and different almost on everything.
