Not sure if we consider Lords of the Fallen a failure, we are very proud of how it was received, and are thankful for all the fans who enjoyed playing it.
With that however, we have taken on all feedback from the original and Hexworks are hard at work ensuring The Lords of the Fallen is the best game it can be.
To clarify, The Lords of the Fallen is a reboot set 1000 years after the events of the first game, with an all new story.
Cheers,

It wasn't a failure. Millions loved it and it's listed as a Top (More built for the average player) Soulslike game.
I bought 2 copies myself, one on Xbox and one on PC.
I think most considered it a failure because it was built around more of a Niche game play type, and your advertising for it was horrible. Plus Souls fans will always hate non-souls games with comparable game play. In addition it did not have much replay value.
Most people these days expect things like Fallout, and Elder Scrolls (And I suppose Elden Ring although honestly I got bored 10 minuets in from Elden Ring). Open World, and replay ability is what people in 2022 are looking for.
That being said, You can't make everyone happy.
Just to clarify, I played it at it's launch, and am an avid dark souls player, as well as numerous souls like, all differing from each other. Recent reviews for steam are still at 50%, and its total with 13k people reviewing is 59%. For a game, that's pretty low. By a lot of peoples standards, the game failed. Even more people were hopeful for the game when it first came out and lost hope as it didn't actually improve any, myself included. I don't expect open world nor replay ability, i just expect solid gameplay, and if i'm lucky, decent story (which most souls like don't have, so i tend not to care). Trying to pass off any criticism of the game because "souls fans will always hate anything that isn't dark souls" is also incredibly stupid, there's a reason why dark souls is the staple for the genre, it's because it is still the best souls-like game in terms of gameplay and mechanics. Anyone who has played LotF, especially early in its life, know how bad the gameplay felt. I don't hate the game, but it was a failure in roughly 50% of the players eyes, which is pretty huge. Wouldn't be surprised if console gave it a bit better time, as console players are used to half baked games with shotty controls already. And no, I'm not saying that just for "master race pc player" mentality, it's just the honest truth. Console players don't get to better their gameplay through any various means, such as mods that end up helping to improve gameplay or performance.
It's a genuine worry as to this title sharing the same name as the previous, despite being 1000 years in the future. I'm hoping the game will be good, as many i'm sure are, but it's also revealed in the time when Elden Ring is still pretty hot on the table, which means people are going to naturally want something of atleast similar value (By the way, didn't like the open world in elden ring, thought it took away from the dark souls feel too much.)
Anyway, I still think LotF was a failure, if you don't that's your cgoice, but it's % don't lie. Hopefully they have a nice rebound from that and make a really solid game.
Not sure why you thought you had to rename the original then: https://store.steampowered.com/app/265300/Lords_Of_The_Fallen_2014/
You might be proud of it, but when playing on a PS4 and having fps stutters during a boss fight is a no go... And no it was not my PS4 that had a problem, it was brand new at that time.
I'll try playing it on a PS5 to see how it goes...
I'm a fan of the original LotF, but the title of this sequel/reboot/whatever is simply atrocious. I strongly recommend the publisher to reconsider their desicion while there's still time.
Not a big fan of calling the games by the year either. Just give it a proper name while you still can.
On the topic of the name change of the older title Lords of the Fallen (2014), we added the distinction of the year of release to avoid confusion with The Lords of the Fallen, hopefully to ensure no mistakes were made when purchasing the intended title.
Whilst I understand the performance of Lords of the fallen (2014) is not up to your standard, rest assured we are taking that on board with the development of The Lords of the Fallen, to ensure that it's the best game it can be.

I really hope so and looking forward to it. Not being able to fuly play / finish the first game left a sour taste...
This developer owns the rights to the IP Lords of the Fallen and also their sourcecode and already established / worked out lore / design and can build upon that.
park owner: don't worry. I'm not making the same mistakes again.
scientist: no. you are making all new ones
