I was a huge fan of Forager and was unaware about the dev's promise until I finished the game. Pretty scummy but I can't deny I enjoyed Forager (at least to me)
When I first discovered Nova Lands, it reminds me so much of Forager. I wanted to experience Forager all over again and decided to risk $20 at it, except maybe this time with space theme.
It may look like Forager on the surface but don't let it fool you, its nothing like Forager at all. It's not a rip-off, it barely qualify as spiritual successor to me. It plays so much differently than Forager because of all the automation, the only similarity is resource gathering and unlocking island.
Well enough on defending Nova Lands being a rip off of Forager.
Personally I too think Nova Lands is a bit pricey for the content available. It doesn't even have half of the content Forager have, despite the dev abandoning the project.
So does it worth $20? Maybe, it's still a decent and enjoyable game if you don't mind the lack of content. And hopefully we get more updates in the future and perhaps workshop support?
tldr: personal opinion not a rip-off and thinks Forager is a good game, but agree content is lacking for $20 game
That said, the first 20 hours are fun. Which is certainly not the case for all games. And I'd rather spend money on a short and fun game than on a game that will make me yawn for 100 hours.
Getting info about a game before buying it also means less negative reviews to write for you. Isn't that great?
A game doesn't NEED to be a forever game to be fun... some ppl actually enjoy being able to "finish a game"
Dudes a top notch Dev. Yall stop hating on him.
I agree.
I'll add this. "Finishing" this game would be something like researching all technologies, building what is unlocked by that last tech, and then fulfilling what that building requires you to do. (Sorry about the vague terms, I'm just avoiding spoilers)
If you can do all that in 15 hours of playtime, you are very fast. If I had to guess the average playtime for a first game until finished, I'd say 25, maybe 30 hours. That's playtime as shown on the saved game. So if you let the game run for the night while you sleep, that counts too.
But then, to 100% complete the game, you need a lot more time. By 100% completed, I mean unlocking absolutely everything in the game, getting all achievements and finishing all quests/orders available. That's like 35+ hours of playtime I'd say.
