Follow the Storyline, there are several ways. In the beginn you can sell stuff in the box on your Ranch.

the fastest way I found was: buy seeds > plant > water > sleep > water > sleep > water > sleep > harvest > sell > buy seeds > plant > water sleep > water > sleep > rinse and repeat until you have enough
all other ways I found didn't bring nearly enough cash (taxi is long and low income, trash picking is nice-ish, but have to wait for day to pass to pick again and find a place with lots of boxes / trash / barrels, usually the chicken selling lady has lots of boxes and trash and barrels, casino doesn't seem to have any content yet, building stuff from farmed materials isn't worth it as prices are too low)

Make 48 farm plots, fill them with Strawberry's, keep a few for food, sell the rest, currently played for 20+ (1st season) in-game days & have 37k..

Rinse & repeat, doing the quests also.. Which means I've also spent a chunk.
