Game Refuses To Launch
Every time I try to launch this game, it black screens until I try to tab out or open task manager and I am met with a crash report. I got the game to launch once by reinstalling it, but that solutions doesn't appear to work anymore. How do I fix this? I really enjoyed the game during the one session I was able to play.

Hello everyone, thank you for posting in the Lockdown forums.

If you are struggling to launch the game, or experience any black screens, please follow our troubleshooting steps given by Ubi_TheBerry above.

Other fixes you can try as confirmed also by other players, is to run the game in Compatibility mode, as some games can struggle to launch or perform on modern day systems the game was not designed for.

For Lockdown, we recommend the Windows® 2000/XP and DirectX 9 as stated in the system requirements. Please see guide on how you can do this - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/make-older-apps-or-programs-compatible-with-windows-10-783d6dd7-b439-bdb0-0490-54eea0f45938

As pointed out by Erik, also selecting Disable Fullscreen Optimizations can help with this issue in several of our older titles that may not launch for you on a modern system/monitor.

Hey Bad-Omen,

Sorry to see you're having issues running the game, is this still happening?

If so, could you please be sure you give the steps[support.ubisoft.com] in our troubleshooting guide a try., including verifying the game's files[ubi.li].

Let us know how you get on, thank you!

I recently picked this game up on the Ubisoft Forward sale and ran in to some issues as well. One of them was the black screen on startup, or sometimes I could hear the movies start to play but be very choppy and not be able to get passed them. Or when I managed to spam ESC enough I got to the main menu but it was frozen and the mouse cursor wouldn't move.

Both of these were solved by running the game with "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" checked on the main executable properties/compatibility tab.

I also ran into an issue where my settings were not being saved. I found out that you need the game installed on the C: drive for the options file to be properly written Probably something to do with permissions or the game simply unable to locate anywhere else.

From what else I've read, you may want to run the game in XP SP 2 compatibility mode to stop other potential issues occurring.

Should run the game as admin too. Windows 10 HATES old games. It often blocks them from saving to to their own folders too unless its set as admin. Same or similiar issues in Rainbow Six 3. Whats annoying is Windows 7 ran these games SO MUCH BETTER. But eventually once you've tweaked it and everything it should run fine. I mean, what do we expect from games so old anyway hehe.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
