No sound on Steam Deck OLED 512GB. Please help.
I have played the game on my PC which work perfectly, but when I load it on the steam deck I don't have any sound. I have tried re installing the game as well as disabling cloud saves to create a new save. None of these work.

I have also tried installing on both the internal SSD and my SD card with no effect. Please help.

Are you playing on Steam or Game Pass?

Edit: nevermind, I saw your post in the thread about the Game Pass audio issue.

Hi, I am playing the game through Steam.

Hi DarkFrost, thanks for reporting this. Sorry about this happening, it's the first time we see a missing audio issue on steamdeck, so we have some questions to try to get to the bottom of it:
  • Are you using any custom setup for the deck, like a different OS for example?
  • (sorry if this is obvious, but just making sure) Is the volume set to 100 on the UI?
  • Did you try the "verify integrity of game files" option? It's on Settings -> Installed Files
  • Are you using any kind of headphones?
  • If so, is it a bluetooth headset?
  • If you disconnect headphones, is there sound coming out of the speakers?

Hi, thank you for responding. Please find my response below.

1. I am on the stable Steam OS version 3.5.7 and build 20231122.1
2. Yes, I have set the volume to maximum on the Steam UI. I can hear the steam sounds when pressing the steam button. The volume is also set to 100 in the settings menu.
3. Yes, this did not fix the problem.
4. I have not connected headphones.
5. Bluetooth is turned off.
6. I tried connecting headphones and disconnecting, neither the headphones or the Steam deck speaker had sound from Cocoon but I could hear the Steam UI sounds.

I have normal sound in other games, only Cocoon has this issue for me.

Please let me know if you need any more information. Thank you for the help :)

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you send us the Player.log & audiolog.txt files?

They should be located at

~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1497440/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/GeometricInteractive/Cocoon/

Audiolog.txt https://pastebin.com/rxMpbFDV

Unfortunately no useful info on those logs.

We have a beta branch where a more verbose log is enabled, so if you could jump in it and get us some logs with more info, it'd be greatly appreciated. The branch name is "logging" and the password is 3NMPmXmMXoAcbkmx

You can access it by going to the game Properties -> Betas -> paste the code in the text field -> press Check Code -> select "logging" on the Beta Participation field on top.
You should see the name of the branch next to COCOON on the library like "COCOON[logging]".

The same log files (Player.log & audiolog.txt) should now contain much more info.

Seems like we've got something, I can see loads of errors in the log.

audiolog: https://pastebin.com/pXD823mK (I had to remove some repeating errors to fit in the file size limit for pastebin I have added a note in the paste)

My OLED 1tb just game out of the box and I got no sound either.

Hi folks, unfortunately it seems that the errors in those log files are "common" and not the cause of a no-sound issue. :(

We also finally managed to get our hands on a new OLED deck, and the sound just plays normally. So we'd have to dig deeper.

We can try to look at proton logs next:
1. Go to the game's properties and under launch options add PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
2. Start the game play for a bit and close it
3. Switch to the Desktop if you aren't in it already and go to your home in Dolphin
4. Next to the Documents / Downloads / Music folders there should be a log file named steam-1497440.log

If you can send it to us it'd be great. Thanks in advance

Hi, I added that launch option and am seeing the following error on launch.

Application load error 3:0000065432

Thanks for the quick reply. You had mentioned you are running the game on SteamOS 3.5.7 and build 20231122.1. Is that still the case? Are you running the game from the Gaming mode or Desktop mode? Can you try:
1. Turning on Developer mode on the Steam -> System menu?
2. Verifying the integrity of game files?
3. Moving the game back to the default location on the Internal drive?
(I see this error mentioned in some places as being related to game being installed on a non-default location)

Hi, thanks for the instructions. I was able to get it to run with the proton logging. I have pasted the link to the log below. Thank you.

Hello, thanks for sending those over. So far we found no difference between the logs on our own OLED and the ones you provided so we're still a bit clueless.

We just uploaded a new build to the "logging" branch that I mentioned above, which also allows you to enable an audio debug screen that we use for testing.

If possible, could you:
- Update to this new build, start the game (past the loading & initial menu)
- Hold R1 + L1 & press A on the deck
- That will bring up the audio debug screen. If you could take a screenshot of that and send us, it'd be great

Also, which options appear to you on the "Output device" field in the deck's Audio settings?
