I've probably done the traning on timed attacks like 20 times by but I still fail to understand it.

I like the system but 2 main issues here :
1. Heavy and light attaxk on the same button without being able to change it is rough.
2. No parry and no block

Nor me, but I have the HUD turned off, if you have the damage numbers on, timed attacked maybe well do more damage……?

I don't think it feels too slow; but I don't think it feels particularly skilful either. It feels a little manic, unbalanced, and kind of a relief when the encounter is over. If any skill is involved it comes through the sheer management of the swarms of enemies who are just trying to cheese you. I don't really feel in control of the fight because the opponents dictate so much of how it must be done.

I know it's a different style of game so it's apples and oranges in large regards, but I'm also playing through Rage 2 right now and I wanted to offer a comparison. While the fighting is in no way similar between the two games, in Rage 2 I feel like a boss. I go in and absolutely ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ up - and it's a rush. Yes some attacks are more effective with certain enemies than others, but I can play my way with my style and pretty much always feel like I'm going to destroy whatever I'm facing, and have an absolute blast doing it. I don't get that with Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights is just too particular.

You have to generally attack/press the button right before the next attack lands and don't keep mashing the buttons just press it once wait for the animation to almost finish then repeat, like with NightWing if done right he'll hit the enemy twice instead of just once which yeah does more damage but the attack animation is also different.

I watched some Arkham combat yesterday, the guy was walking past enemies, killing them next to others, the AI is beyond oblivious. They don't see you 3m up on a pipe while going to investigate noise because someone else got killed. The youtuber was just playing chess with enemies and how takedowns work. It is so drastically different, it doesn't feel like you're fighting enemies, you're just taking them down. I myself played City and Asylum, once you get the hang of the combat you're immortal, enemies don't have any chance to hit you with anything. That's what I like about Gotham Knights, you end up getting hit and you have to deal with different enemies differently rather than just going up and hitting them.

One thing I would also say is that they probably don’t do enough to highlight the enemy weaknesses against different elements and they dont make it clear enough which elemental modifiers you have. I mean, you can find it, but it’s a little out of the way. These sort of ui/x things could really surface some of the combat depth for people. A common complaint I see is about the sponginess of enemies later in the game, but they all have tactics and weaknesses. The spiderman games do a good job of pointing that stuff out in gameplay.

I like this game more than I thought I would. Genuinely interested in seeing it improved

Yes it’s tucked away in DATABASE —> PROFILE then FACTIONS I think..

Then you can see enemy profiles and weakness, resistances etc

It would be a huge improvement if you could see weaknesses when scanning/tagging enemies.

Although I LOVED Arkham Asylum and City — couldn’t get into Knight. More of the same… the magic had gone.

Arkham games were on another level as far as a carefully curated experience goes.

BUT Arkhams combat was pretty automatic —- there’s a vid by Worth a Buy where he uses a Teddy bear rabbit to just spam the attack button and Batman just lept from guy to guy, beating everybody up.

Weird fake news bad troll? or just mad the game is good and you're bad at it?

Gotham knights was very lucky to release when it did….
Given the bad press and performance issues.

There’s literally zero competition. And it’s not been an amazing year for games. Nor does next year seem like there’s much…

Love how he shows this off against trash mobs who neither block nor dodge.

Combat devolves into a frustrating mess once you're fighting mobs of dodgers and blockers.

Let's be real - no one had to try to 'convince' people that combat in the Arkham Series was good. People just picked it up and enjoyed it.

And before you say "don't compare it to arkham," WB Montreal was a part of the Arkham series. They made Origins - so there is no excuse for the combat we've got here.
Dude who made the video is just a fanboy who’s been in cope mode since before release.

I really enjoy the combat in this game.

But if you play on HARD, and are in one of those prolonged fights with a Brute enemy type, I was thinking it would be good if the combat system was a bit deeper…

I really mix it up too, I zip up to a ledge mid fight and use the Ariel attack to gain vantage and able to deliver a blow that will bring brute to their knees… but during prolonged fights, it would be good if there was more options.

Like maybe once you have grabbed an enemy there was the option for light attack, AND heavy attack as well…

Would be good for the option to fight without a weapon too, for faster attack combo’s but trade off being less damage.. maybe?

I do appreciate and increasingly so how important the right gear paired with the right enemies is…

Last night I crafted my first suit with double mod slots. Made a huge difference destroying the harder enemies.

Just thought I would point that out if others didn't know it existed.
