Now that's it's super cool and trendy, especially with the youth, you'll see more and more of this in stuff. I don't think it was meant to imply anything about the team, just like irl straight people will go to pride so everyone knows they're cool and trendy and an "ally".
It's just woke activist nonsense.
Sad too that someone can't just create some cool gay superhero or whatever, and instead, they just pigeonhole stuff where it has no purpose.
I thought the new Bond movie did a good job at that, where they make Q gay in the final movie, with a dinner scene, without getting into it, or a big deal about it, just a quick scene where it's like hey yeah I'm gay btw, you can treat me like everyone else, which, imo is the opposite of what pride is.
Now I'll stop before I turn this into a rant about pride.
It’s only Tim who is Bi… apparently? I stopped reading the comics years ago.
But the whole LGBT+ message / promotion does get a little tedious.
I came across a whole area in the northern part of Gotham, which looked almost something like Brooklyn Heights, it looked like some impoverished neighbourhood, and there was a massive pride flag, painted on the road, with countless pride flags, hanging out the window.
And I just thought really?
This looks like one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Gotham and these poor people eeking out an existence, trying to survive day to day — are still that concerned about pride month? I did find that somewhat amusing….
I think what becomes frustrating about this stuff is it’s not fair.
It’s so disproportionate when compared to the platform given for other things - no other marginalised groups get this kind push across all media and corporate platforms so consistently… .
What about mental illness which I’m personally very passionate about? That affects 1-4 people, I mean there’s the real pandemic facing the world! Or disability…? I’d even say anti racism doesn’t get the same push.
Attending a pride parade and having rainbow flag paraphanelia doesn't mean you are gay.
However I think one of the members of the watch mentioned a same-sex partner.
Batman and Robin have been gay since the 50s [slate.com]
Think about the general concept of Batman and the superhero genre. Bruce Wayne pretends to be every hetero man's dream. IN reality, he secretly likes to run around town in bondage gear.
If you have to say anything along the lines of "I'm not racist/sexist/homophobic but..." it's usually something best left unsaid.
In all fairness, many Corporations have jumped onto the pride bandwagon. Take Target for example. They plaster pride flags on their merchandise while donating to anti-LGBT politicians. She-Ra has almost no hetero characters. Almost any show released after 2018 has a token POC or LGBT character. Titans and Legion Of Doom both have multiple LGBT characters.
They're going to be obsessively focused on justice (but definitely not revenge), just like any good little Wayne clone. Only time to punch criminals, chase criminals,, and sleep.
No. And someone doesn't need to be queer to go to a pride parade.
I have. It was so eerily similar in structure and form to complaints about the Belfry flag and Tim that I couldn't tell if it was trolling or not, but that's the internet for you. :-P Haha!
But yeah, modern DC Comics is all about that. I just work under the assumption that every character in DC media is gay now unless they say otherwise. I'm right more often than not, because DC-Earth is 98% LGTBQIA+ and 2% other.
By the way, I'm glad someone mentioned the West End looking like a war-zone. I've been to LGBTQIA+ hot spots on dates (with women, sorry). They're very nice! Short North in Columbus is a clean, safe, artsy couple of blocks with really pleasant stores, shockingly loud club music, and lots of bars. Gotham's West End is one of the most dreary, dilapidated ghettos I have ever seen. It looks like Gotham Hospital is slowly swallowing it up, block by fetid block, and it's filled with crazy criminals stabbing each other... but someone is wandering those streets spreading glitter, rainbows, and love. They've even painted a giant rainbow baby shattering purple chains.
A braver soul than I. I'd be bunkered down, man. :-D
Dude, it's a poorly written text blurb buried in the fluff emails. Yes, it's weirdly moralizing, which is why it's poorly written, but it's hardly worth caring about.
I don't think he'd care as much if it wasn't so ever present nowadays.
Proselytizing is hard to balance. You can have a good, reasonable message... but overplay your hand. Preach it too loud, too often, in too many places. People will start getting fed up with it. They'll grumble every time they even catch a hint of it on the wind. Too much. Demasiado.
I don't think he's a homophobe like Escapist accused him of being. I think he's probably just tired of it. *shrug* If you never give people a break or chance to breathe before you're back to preaching at 'em again, you're probably going to find yourself not particularly welcome.
But eh. The only blurb that ever particularly got a rise out of me was Tim saying, "I wish Bruce was still alive... I never got to tell him about BERNARD!!!"
Your mentor, father figure, and personal hero died a brutal, hideous death at the hands of a crazed madman, and you wish he hadn't... because you want to tell him about your new boyfriend? That's why? Gadzooks.
