Weapon Stats Meaning?
Hello all! Can anybody tell me what the weapon stat "Power" means? I would have assumed more power = more damage, but then there's a different stat called "Damage"... So, what the hell does upgrading the "Power" stat even do for a weapon?
Thanks!

I submitted a ticket, and WB Games answered this for me: "Power is how much the weapon boosts a character's offensive capabilities and Damage is for the weapon itself."

Maybe success chance of affliction for Fear?

Yeah, it does seem like a needless over-complication... being they are melee weapons, perhaps the idea is that, through better design, materials, & weight distribution, you are able to wield more "Power" with your strikes given the same methods of use? That still leaves damage nonsensical... are they adding spikes and other sharp edges to your baton as you build it up for higher "Damage"?
In the end, I don't really care. On a practical level, it seems to mean "Damage" = more damage per strike, and "Power" = ...I guess I don't know... more hits landed, perhaps? Or maybe a higher critical hit chance?

Power is the overall gear score. When you equip a character with a weapon that has 50 more power, that characters power (gear score) increases 50. I never considered power having any impact at all on how the weapon performs, but rather just an overall rating of the total stats.

...and how does that translate practically, in a way that separates the meanings of these 2 stats?

I would say practically, power presumably does nothing. It's just a rating of the other stats on an item. Like every other game that's ever had a gear score.

If you look at the characters suits on the racks in the Belfry, each character has a power value. It's just the sum of all of their equipments power stat. I've seen no reason to ever think it's anything more than that.

Just to add to what's already been said, I just tested two Red Hood guns with the same damage value but significantly different 'power' values. The damage-per-hit (normal hits, no crits or other modifiers) was exactly the same for both weapons.

If Power does have any practical purpose beyond the abstract 'ranking' of equipment, I'm not seeing it. Not in the damage numbers, at least.

Thanks, Bane Slivermoon & Sakhari! In light of your comments, I will likely ignore prompts to upgrade/craft weapons if it only improves the "Power" stat from here on in.

Nice!

One thing to keep in mind with gear, is that mods on it will improve a bunch of it's stats. Sometimes you'll have a piece of modded gear that's better than another piece of gear. But if you move that same mod over to the other piece, the other one would then be more powerful.

Power has got to have some other impact, effecting how much damage/defense you have against an enemy of a certain level or something. I just equipped a mod that increased the power of my suit by 140 points, and the only other thing on it was 20 health. I can't imagine that just being a reference to how much stronger 20 health makes you.
How I perceive it and how it's done in other games, such as Destiny which generally has the same concept but done a bit differently, Power is just a measure of you're overall strength as a character. It's a combination of all your stats to be measured as a singular number to simplify things. So when it comes down to it, and it probably will with heroic assault or whatever it's called, you'll be able to know how you stand up to the challenge. In Destiny though, if you are below the power level(light level) requirement, you do reduced damage and take more damage regardless if you characters overall strength could possibly handle it just fine. In this game, I believe you won't be penalized for not meeting the power level requirement for an activity but you'll know roughly where you stand to the challenge.

So for example:
My batgirl has a power level of 5,720. Before I entered NG+ I noticed that crimes had a difficulty level from Very Low to Very High. So those that are Very Low I would say would probably have like a recommended power level of maybe 3000. Very High would probably recommend a power level of let's say like 7000. This is all arbitrary but in the end I could still do Very High generally easy albeit just took longer due to enemies being spongey and hitting harder.

This is what I thought as well. But I question it now after seeing mods where the only stats on them are 20 health and 250 power. My character had 500 health and was power 800 at the time. 25% power increase for 20 health seems odd.
