Co-Op destroyed this game
"Due to the types of features we have in our game, like providing a fully untethered co-op experience..." Full stop.

If you can't release a game at 60 fps on a next gen console, or require a GPU from NASA to do so on PC, Co-op needs to be an afterthought.

Listen, unless you're releasing an MMO or a game based solely on full co-op, releasing a fun, engaging, stable core experience should be your top priority. Not if Batgirl can play in the same world at the same time as Robin.

I'm going to get some backlash here, because I know that a lot of people really want that co-op experience, but if we're literally releasing a broken product to achieve that, you're destroying the experience.

That said, I have nothing against co-op games, especially when it's done right. But this studio obviously could not achieve that experience. And if the choice was between pulling co-op and releasing a stable product, I'd rather see the stable product with co-op added later.

The other complaint that I've seen is that enemies are basically "bullet sponges" which is something that usually only happens when the game doesn't scale between co-op and single player. So again we have what was once an optional, fun addition becoming something that is literally destroying the entire experience.

This release should be a shining example as to what priorities should be placed when developing a game at this point. Co-op is always a fun, optional experience. It should never completely ruin the experience for everyone. And I'll say it right now: This is Fallout 76 bad.

hate to tell you this but thees tons of ports from consoles that are capped at 30 fps for pc artificially that we cant get around, so duh, now its our turn, if you cant play the game without at least a 30 series, too bad, get a new card. The 30 series have been out for over a year now.

How coop affecting performance in this game?
Misstizo Oct 21, 2022 @ 9:54am
im pretty sure this game will run on a 20 series not exactly the latest and greatest

This game is focused on co-op. And everyone has known this since the game was announced. If you bought this game wanting to have fun on your own, the risk taken is your sole responsibility.
I'm not defending the game in any way. And I know Gotham Knights can be a huge disappointment for any other gameplay or storytelling factor. But complaining about a game for being co-op doesn't make any sense. :steamfacepalm:

As that post said untethered co op meaning people can be on opposite ends of the map meaning a much larger area needs to be fully loaded in for both people, at least i figure that's where the devs are going.

You're posting this on a Steam forum. You .. do know the Steam version is NOT locked to 30fps, right?

Right? You know this... right? And the bullet sponge complaint is the same you can levy against any and all looter shooters as well. Division, Borderlands, etc. Any action game with a scaling leveling systtem, has this issue.

If you want them to go down fast, play on easy mode.

There's precisely zero requirement to fully load part of the level you are not in, regardless as to status of coop partner.

No, WB Montreal destroyed this game.

Depends on the hosting.

It doesn't. There's a reason LoD exists. There's a reason there's culling and clipping of objects you can't see. You only need to receive data about where the partner is and what they're doing, not all details of everything around them.

Well if you want grafics do not go for console.

Also more to the point: Bad game and grafic engine with unoptimized structure is bad in itself, coop does not play into that. They could just have downgraded the whole thng or waited longer till they know how to use it.

Just wanted to say that you should have done a bit more googling on to why they decided on locking 30 fps on consoles. It had to do with Series S. Series S struggles with maintaining consistent frames on "next gen" games especially if the game has Ray tracing in mind. Series S can't do Ray tracing for crap. Now the devs could have taken the time to properly implant a performance mode for consoles but guessing they didn't because of the time frame they wanted/had to release the game (Which is terrible btw the game should have been delayed another year). Coop had nothing to do with why the game runs the way it does. They botched the port plain and simple. Apparently we wanted The Avengers game but in DC form and not the Batman arkham series with coop added :steamfacepalm:

I’m a singleplayer kinda guy mostly, so I agree that making the best solo experience should be the FIRST priority..

I’m all for coop. But anything that taxes resources and time and ultimately impacts the quality of the single-player experience. I’m not down…

I love well implemented coop - but I’d rather have quality solo experience.
