Seems to me like they really, really want to force the Denuvo version of the game on people to the point where they're willing to lock out paying customers from their game while pirates get to play this game willy-nilly. Yikes.
I doubt it's intentional, just like it wasn't intentional for them to release a Denuvo-free version. They probably did try to intentionally lock people out of being able to revert to a Denuvo-free version (On Steam it's possible for players to revert to previous versions of the game), and this is probably what caused this whole mess.
Funny part of this is that the game popped up on a certain preinstalled free game site hours ago because this patch broke the DRM. So, it's already out of the bag. Singleplayer is cracked.
They locked out paying customers because they're more interested in having Denuvo in the game than they are in making sure that customers receive a great experience. How sad.
Cat's already out of the bag and somehow they still decided it would be better to do *this* than just leave it alone. Really details how "amazing" their decision making process is that they've ended up in a state where no paying customer can download or update their game. :Claps:
One illegal download does not equate to one legal purchase. It's never been proven to be the case for the video game industry, it's just that these corporations are beyond greedy and clearly they don't care about the consumers that pay for their products.
The bad PR from the constant Ls they're taking certainly can't help.
