Gameplay first impressions.

I will start by saying I am enjoying the game so far for the most part and wold recommend it.

However be aware of both some very strange game design ideas and at least one very frustrating bug.

The game is very cartoony with the graphics yet seems to not be sure if it is either a casual/relaxed adventure game or a serious story. Jumping from light hearted exploration and music playing to possessing a machete and slashing someones face.

The graphics while not demanding do tend to have a lot of ghosting and stuttering while moving the camera around, especially in areas with a lot of trees. I have not seen any noticeable drop in FPS though. I also see no difference with film grain or motion blur on/off the game looks and runs the same.

The Map is strange in that it only shows your "Last Known Location" that is updated either by interacting with a signpost or one of the synchronization type spots that reveal the location of collectibles on the map. You can put pins in the map that show on your compass and raft also shows on the map but Tchia does not.

Tchia can climb like Spiderman straight up smooth vertical surfaces but your starting Stamina is extremely limiting. Only allowing around 10sec of glide time and climbing. this can be upgraded by finding stamina fruits but they only upgrade 1 point at a time or around .5sec more glide/clime time.

Swimming, I am not sure if you are supposed to be able to hold your breath forever or not but one of the first few times I went swimming after some time the stamina bar popped up and rapidly drained till I passed out. Since then I have never run out of breath, literally explored an entire sunken ship on one breath.

The Raft, seems to be trying to be semi realistic with its controls forcing you to adjust your sails for speed, use the oar for steering and raise and lower your anchor. sounds easy right? well you can only do one of these things at a time, meaning you have to let go of the oar walk to and grab the sail and adjust it to speed up or slow down then let go of the sail and walk back to the oar to steer again. this is not so bad in the open ocean but when trying to maneuver around smaller areas it can be a pain.

This lead me to my first major bug in the game. While sailing at full speed trying to get somewhere on the map my wife distracted me and I looked away. when I turned back I was already about to run into the thing I was trying to get to and before I could slow down I rammed into it and my raft flipped over on to it (with Tchia still standing on it). I was not able to remove the Raft from the area it got stuck on and had to load my last auto save (Manual save left the raft stuck). after loading an auto save the raft loaded upside down in the water and I had to mess with it for about 10min before I was able to glitch it right side up again,

This is me as well (playing on PS5). The Steam fanboys are some of the worst around, I think because they know there is a decent chance Devs will actually read their sycophancy.

I'm loving the game, but ran into two soft-crashes so far in the first couple hours that forced me to load an old save. Thankfully I didn't lose any real progress either time.

the map is just a map, they dont track your location in real life (guess that what they going for) , so you have to use surrounding location to judge where you are currently located at.

as for swimming and stamina, the whole game have tons of stamina fruits, you can upgrade max 130 stamina, if you dont wan gliding, just become a bird and fly. swimming there is a song that give u a underwater breathing skills so you dont really have to worry about that. (yes swimming need stamina, if your version didnt have, then its bugged)

Yeah, the game has a strong open critic rating. The feedback from players have been massively positive too. As per the usual, games that go exclusive to Epic are very likely to be good quality games that are fun to play.

Epic had a huge chance to snag Judgment games and Persona 5 for release in 2021 but they decided that NEO The World Ends With You was more worth it.

I really really enjoyed most of the game but the story and unnecessary violence (like, really crazy f*cked up sh*t) totally ruined the ending for me. It all presents and plays as a game you could play with your 5-year old daughter and then there's ***SPOILER AHEAD*** infant baby slashed with machete.

Like WTF. Why? Was any of this even necessary?

Oh, and there's headless chicken with bone sticking out of their neck running around for a comedy purpose. I'm a 37-year old meat-loving non-vegan dude and I find it extremely unfunny and cruel for this type of game.
