Fritz was my 'least' fave of the 1st route (only least because I liked the other routes more, I still loved it) so I wanted to take his 1st, Klaude is my 2nd fave love interest so I wanted to try his after. Chev falls in the middle of my ranking so he went next.
Rod's my fave Love Interest/Character so I wanted to have him 2nd to last (I loved his route in evermore!), Waltz route is last because his route is my personal favourite and his route in the 1st game was the most 'complete' so it only made sense to me to have him last as well
I had forgotten that in the Fritz route so many people are dead by the end. I'm not a huge fan of Fritz as a character/LI, but I did like Varg's story in the original and hoped there be more on that.
I adored Rod's route, and was so happy I saved it last (my only complaint was that I would have liked to see more Rod & Sebby banter/interaction!).
klaude -> I PLANNED ON DOING RODS NEXT BUT DEADASS ACCIDENTALLY CHOSE FRITZ LOL -> my plan is to do rod next
personally chevalier is my least fav, but so far klaude and fritz routes have really <3 warmed my heart. DESPITE FRITZS GOOD ENDING IN THE FIRST GAME HURTING SO MUCH
I agree! The only reason that I did enjoy the original Fritz story as much as I did was because of Varg! He was a bit bland otherwise. I did like that there was more character this time. Especially the masquerade ball.
Fritz's was my least favorite route in the first game due to his route feeling more like a normal route for Luceette rather than a romance route, and Waltz had story issues in the first game I was hoping Evermore would fix. So, I saved those two for last and played Rod>Klaude>Chevalier>Waltz>Fritz in Evermore.
I played Rod first because I was interested to see what they did with the weird "our relationship has to be a secret because we're step-siblings trope" which I felt didn't really make too much sense in the first game. Then, I played Klaude because he ended up being my favorite route from the first game, and stuck Chevalier in the middle.
There were still holes from the first game in Waltz's route they didn't fill in, but it was still enjoyable. I was definitely not disappointed I saved Fritz for last because his actually ended up being my favorite in Evermore. His just ended up being very unique compared to the others.
Out of curiosity, what holds did you feel were in Waltz's story? Back story/history about him being in the castle when Lucette was younger, or something else?
While Fritz's wasn't my favorite in Evermore, I definitely enjoyed his story in this one better than the original (I agree, that it didn't feel like much of a romance route in the first).
From a storytelling perspective, as the main romance route of the first game, I personally feel like his curse should've been a lot harder to break. It seemed like just anyone could've opened Neverland with Tinkerbell at any time. You don’t really ever see how he was suffering from his curse either. The fairytale curses are all represented as something personal, and he doesn’t seem to suffer from the effects at all other than his magic not fully working.
Not only that, but his route relied heavily on his past with Lucette without actually really showing anything from her past. The only memory we are shown, while cute, didn’t really have anything to do with the overall plot. He also calls her his little star, which don’t get me wrong is also hella cute, but there’s never any explanation or memory to back up how they got so attached with each other as kids even in Evermore.
Waltz also didn’t seem to have any flaws in his personality which bothered me. The writer went to the trouble in the first's game's Prologue and first chapter to highlight Waltz having this overly honest and somewhat dark and melancholic tinge to his personality, and I didn't really feel like they expanded on that idea further for the rest of his story. He also felt like a bit of a wimp for being a supposedly powerful witch prodigy, and I didn’t really understand why he didn’t seem more battle savvy when by age and timeline indicators of the game he’d probably had to survive in a 12-year old body without magic for at least 10 years.
I personally think the writer would've benefited in having extra chapters added in his storyline to further explore those themes in the first game and his route would've been better for it in the long run. While I appreciated the writer highlighting his past as a murderer for Hildyr, they've already been together two years in Evermore. This really feels like information that should've been explored already in the first game before Lucette realized she was in love with him.
Don't get me wrong. I really do like his character, and his routes are by no means bad or poorly written. I just wish the themes I brought up here had been explored and given more attention than I felt like they were.
I don't even remember him being introduced as somewhat dark/melancholic (it's been a few years since I played CP and I didn't give it a replay right before Evermore), but he definitely wasn't played that way for almost any of the story in either. I was a bit meh about him compared to the other stories, and I think you hit the nail on the head; of all the characters, he seemed to have so little "flaw" to him. His past is so very much a matter of being taken advantage of/controlled by someone with more power, that that doesn't feel like an innate flaw of his in the same way that Karma's vanity, Fritz's floundering for an identity, Rod's feelings of inadequacy, or Rumple's tendency to give too much of himself do.
When I played the first game for the first time I chose Karma first because he was the most attractive to me and then regretted it for the rest of the game because no one could live up to him lol. I saved him for last this time and he did not disappoint. Absolutely love everything about Klaude and his route, it's head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion. The only thing that was a little disappointing was that Emelaigne and Llama don't seem to get together in this route. I feel bad for them but I guess sacrifices must be made for me to get my man haha
Overall I liked the game a lot but I do wish it had been a bit longer. I felt there were more themes to explore in all of the routes and would have loved a few more chapters in each.
I disliked rumple so much in the first game, he was just so flippant, shallow, and honestly the exact opposite of what I like. I am happy to say evermore made me dislike him less. Still glad I got his route out of the way.
I was not expecting to hate Rods route so much, just man you go off to Burgantia leave the love of your life to prove something to a bunch of people who don't matter. I guess also himself, but seriously you could have been taking lessons on HOW TO RUN THE COUNTRY YOU WILL BE KING OF INSTEAD OF LEARNING TO BREAKDANCE how immature can you be.
Waltz seems to be the creators favorite once again as he has the most plot filled ending. I liked the overall plot of trying to find balance in the world and I liked how much say Lucette had in the events.
I was so happy they incorporated Varg more into Fritz. I would have left his route for last as Varg was my favorite character in the first one but was less enthralled with fritz on his own. It was so GOOD the first couple paragraphs were just stellar. I enjoyed the theme of coming to terms with the past so you can move on, and how that is hard no matter the circumstances . The highs of this route were definitely the my favorite but it was brought down my the over all melancholy of the route. I am also 2/2 on picking all the correct answers blind for fritz so I liked that.
Klaude oh Klaude you were hands down my favorite of the first game and you are definitely the best all rounder again. You definitely deserve that giant ego of yours. His problems were so well done. He made me want to redo all the routes to see his relationship with Lance through a whole new lens.
