I'm wondering if the save files are actually being created. If you save a couple of times and then go to the load screen, do the saves show up?
The reason that I say to save twice, and do something in between those saves, is the idea that maybe the game actually keeps the save data in memory when you first save, so it doesn't need a file to (re)load that. Doing two saves, with different data, would hopefully eliminate that possibility. The assumption here is that if the game was keeping save data in memory, it would only be the last save and not multiple saves.
If there are no saves listed, then it would seem that the game is being prevented from saving. Your security software may be blocking it. For example, Windows Defender has a "ransomware protection" option that can restrict access to certain folders, and that has apparently prevented other games from saving in the past.
If the saves are listed before you exit the game, then something is apparently deleting them. It's probably the game, but it could, theoretically, be something else, like if your anti-virus thought that the files were infected and quarantined them (that seems unlikely, but who knows).
For me the saves are being created in the AppData folder in my User folder of my C: drive. I can see saves being created, and the dates are all recent. But when I go load a game, the option is greyed out because it simply can't access them.
(Try looking in Users/[user name]/AppData/Local for the Carnal Instinct folder)
Good point. I hadn't thought of that possibility. I mean, it seems odd that the game would be able to create a save file, but then not be able to read it, but anything's possible at this point. (I assume that you're looking in the Carnal_Instinct_UE5 folder, and not Carnal_Instinct (that's the UE4 version))
Under Windows 10, the save files should be in:
%localappdata%\Carnal_Instinct_UE5\Saved\SaveGames
Win 11 might be different.
I now my english sucks, i'm not an native english speaker ;)
With the UE4 build there are issues which crop up due to having save data from older builds in your save folder, this sounds exactly like one of those..
In order to resolve it you need to head to your save folder (found at 'C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Carnal_Instinct\Saved\SaveGames') and then delete everything found here.
Any save data you did have would be lost, but upon starting a new playthrough everything should be working as intended again (including the save system itself).
That's for the UE4 version. The UE5 saves are in a different folder (the one I posted earlier). It's Carnal_Instinct_UE5, instead of Carnal_Instinct .
Maybe that will help people. If the game isn't saving anyway, then I guess they don't have much to lose by trying it. But I thought part of the reason for CI Team switching from UE4 to UE5 was that UE5 wouldn't have that problem with data from old saves.
