It's really not that big of a deal. In the initial UE5 release, essence was limited (you could only get it from specific objects), but with the recent update, you get essence when you kill enemies (I think any enemy).
And there is only one shrine, and a quest takes you to it, so you don't have to "find" it.
Any enemy you kill gives a small amount of essence now.
i honestly preferred the ability to swap where ever i wanted, and all i had to do was either find vessels to unlock stuff, or do a quest to unlock it
now i'm forced to just endlessly kill stuff for essence to then trek to the statue if i want to change things up
You can fast travel to the shrine, so it's only a "trek" if there's no campfire nearby. But aside from that, the quest that you're given after Masquerade gives you an item that can apparently be used to go directly to the shrine from anywhere (I say "apparently" because I haven't actually bothered to try it yet).
"Future thing", as far as I can tell. I don't know why they included icons for forms that aren't in the game yet. That's just going to lead to confusion.
