This will fail for the same reason every other rts fps hybrids do
These games never take off because the experience of being an RTS player reliant on ground forces who you cannot control knowing what resources you need and what defensive positions you need secured and will often run into the issue where the fps players think they know better and will ignore commands and take other random useless areas leading to the RTS player unable to do anything which results in a terrible experience.

If you want to succeed you cannot take resource management away from the rts player managing our income is too important to leave to brainless marines and yet every single time people diving into his hybrid mode make the same basic braindead mistake of letting only the FPS players be in control of resource harvesting.

You are behind the curve a bit Akarin, but this game seems to be entirely playable by RTS alone. You dont need your human players.

That said, you do raise a genuine and good point here. Dependency on a ground player in fps can often slaughter rts. Especially at a grand scale which this game seems to aim for.

The description itself says players can drive any vehicle including the harvester and there is no situation that i would ever want a player driving one, lets say i give a harvester an order then go to do something else and when i looked away a fps player hops in and drives the harvester to the front lines because its quicker for them and it has good hp in this scenario not only do i not get my resources i also have the potential to lose my harvester all without be ever being aware it was happening and even if i was aware is there anything i could do to stop it? probably not.

I mean, I have it from the dev in a different thread. But yes, I do agree a lockout option would be nice to have. But I also wouldn't get paranoid about it either.

I mean, I have it from the dev in a different thread. But yes, I do agree a lockout option would be nice to have. But I also wouldn't get paranoid about it either.
I'm not being paranoid literally every other RTS fps hybrid has been killed by this very thing its not a small deal nor an ignorable problem you want RTS players to play your game this requires i always have control of resource generation, rts players are highly controlling by nature if we cannot control resources then we don't bother playing.

Well yeah of course. I play RTS too. I am also just as dominating in ensuring my faction army gets under way. Thats the point. What I am meaning is that I wouldn't raise too much fuss. Just give me a button to lock the vehicle, or eject a player from it. I doubt Silica is going to have many trolls, and no one playing the game regularly is going to take the super valuable harvester for a spin unless his goal is to speed up resource generation.

They will though this behavior is quite common in games like apex legends and league, people get bored especially fps players who will often queue up just to troll around when bored its the nature of these people to do so.

Yet this isn't Apex or league. Games like Silica are very different from games like League and Apex. And attract a different crowd. People troll there. This game will retain a fairly small population.

Damn I think the world would already been killed, because in real life people do not follow orders nor in companies nor in war scenario and in real life you also get trolls. How do RTS players like you cope with living without being able to control every single person like delivery guy exactly as you wish.

Akarin has real concerns that need to be addressed. Your example fails as well due to one reason.

In a RTS, the assumption is the Player is a commander and his men follow his orders. Real militaries do this, best they can. There is no room for trolls. Akarin's concern is a player with no skin in the game will come in and sabotage the efforts of the commander to fight a grander war. And its a valid concern. It's seen a lot that players don't care at all about others in the games he references, though they are removed game wise from what this one is.

Games like silica are different? Yea, games like silica fail, all of them, always.

Not a single RTS + FPS hybrid has ever succeeded in a competitive pvp environment.

Hey all! Ok so immediately to address the first question - the FPS players play alongside the Commander's army. FPS players can drive any vehicle, including the Harvester. This, as mentioned, presents the problem that they may troll it. A lockout (including kick out) option for ANY vehicle by the Commander is planned. There are situations where the Commander may want players Harvesting:
- To a trusted player that can take it just that bit faster than AI (choosing paths the AI would avoid)
- In a clinch it can be used to crush enemy vehicles, and the bucket-wheel extractor at the front may destroy vehicles as well

Still dont see point as FPS player why i should harvest if there is no reward as for me or cmdr where as FPS player can be usefull on another place.. Just my 50cents opinion

just watched a demo video and it looks... unappealing. it gives me no reason to play this game, instead of others.
your project might not fail because its a rts/fps, but it will surely fail, because it sucks at both.
give me a reason to play this, instead of dune ii and wolfenstein 3d.
