dedicated servers
dont you hate it when you struggle for 2 hours against the alien commander who is also the host and when you finally beat his blob he just straights up quit. then tells everyone who rejoins just to complain to him "tough ♥♥♥♥".

also its 2023 ffs we need dedicated servers for both practical and security reason
we dont want another vietnam tiddy server right into malware surprise

1. Official dedicated server support is already planned from the dev if I recall. He said he was going to fix up the netcode before that though.
2. We already have some "dedicated servers" setup by the community. Essentially they are just really beefy computers hosting non-stop with the host afk. Within the server listings, they usually say "dedicated server" in the listing name or something along these lines.

I have only been playing on the dedicated servers, and have had no issues with the host leaving.

It's EA.
And it's a single person developing.

Dedicated servers would something for consideration further down the line when the game has matured.

I'm going to disagree, dedicated servers should be day one thing any multiplayer game makes available with the game. Even in EA.

The current dedicated servers aren't that much better. At least OP got to play a 2 hour round, you know?

A lot of players just want to finish a round no matter win or loss but unfortunately most of the time on the current dedicated servers the rounds last 15-20 minutes as many of the 'usual commanders' you'll see on these servers treat the game as a single player RTS. When they get sick of losing or they tried some extreme meme tactic, they'll end round just to jump back into the com seat next rounds. Rinse and repeat.

Dedicated servers used to get full, but due to those tactics from commanders you'll see more players in private rounds and non dedicated servers. As I write this, there are 20 players in password locked servers, 1 in public and 6 on dedicated.

Right now it's best to find trusted players from the discord or your group of friends to host a round.

Once a few different QoL mechanics are added, we'll see a much better server/player count.
