No problem. It's not as open world oriented but it's pretty much a small war between the teams. You don't get vehicles but the AI does and the commander gives them orders. The AI is pretty thorough when using all the units and commander abilities.

More than the FPS I like the RTS aspect of Silica the most. And the dessert setting. Reminds me of Desserts of Kharak, or Dune: Spice Wars (without the 4X Diplomacy).

Nobody will remember this, but you could also check out Nuclear Dawn. Last I remember, it had a few maps in the workshop, but that game is pretty old.

Natural selection 2 has a dedicated community, but it's *only* multiplayer, though you can fill the server with bots. However it is very much a lot like this game.

Should be kept in mind it's also fast-paced and smaller in scale then silica with a rather tough skill-cap and rather 'interesting' players XD

Renegade X is something to check out while you wait, a free fully fledged game in Unreal Engine 3 based on the old Command & Conquer Renegades game from EA 20 odd Years ago. There was some drama with the devs falling out but iirc they are working on an expansion/sequel to it also.
