Is this game open world or semi open?
It seems to have a very large map but areas do not seem particularly open. Is it a game whereby each area is a self contained section that only leads to the next section via one path?

One of the annoying types. Pretty lenghty ones, a lot of running and backtracking. Quite empty and lifeless, too. Usually you have to press E to climb over ♥♥♥♥ or through. So nothing special.

Kinda seems like how the new god of wars are. Its fairly straightforward, and slightly open. Maybe kin to older fable (if im remembering correctly). Im not that far into it thou.

That is disappointing. I am a few hours in and figured that the closed areas would just be for the tutorial. It seems more like a linear game than anything then.

Yup, I would say Fable is the closest.

One of the weakest points, though later on some rewards are handy. You can skip them, though if you are not perfectionist.
Don´t banish the game yet, though! The cases are quite good and the story isn´t bad at all!

I won't be dropping the game but I was hoping for a little more exploration than what is on offer as I do like to 100% games like this when it is fun to do so.

I guess I'll just focus on the main story and the hauntings.

It seems I will do so, too. Best are main story and blue hauntings. Grey activities are meh so far. Running around like maniac thousand times isn´t that fun.

The pinned FAQ answers this.

It's like independent zones you run through collecting items and fighting enemies, all connected together to form one big map.

If you played Greedfall, that's this game.
The running back and forth is because it has metroidvania elements but as someone said, if you odn't wanna 100%, you can skip most of those parts

Sadly, Greedfall was even more boring in in map design and exploration.

The game knows what it is. It's a linear game that plays like a semi-open world game, disguised as an open world game.

Literally everytime: Spelunking loading screen->Enter new area->Notice elevated but inaccessible path->37 mins later, return via elevated formerly inaccessible path

True, but it seems the game "cheats" and uses traversing (which is slow, like crawling through crevice) as time to load next zone. And you would be suprised, I like this approach - in sense of immersion.
But I noticed that when I returned to ANY town, the game crashes, probably becuse it´s overwhelmed by all those data from around the map. It might not be the case, but it seems so.

I guess we can read different opinions on this. I think both games are similar in many ways. IMO, the maps of both games and their exploration are interesting. Exploring areas in Greedfall is far from boring, and, for me, even the exploration in Greedfall feels a bit more flexible and less constricted compared to Banishers. Both are great games with interesting, well-designed areas to explore.

Glad you are enjoying both game much more than I do :)
