But I suppose I'd rather see people like that than complaining they only ever use Streaming because "no one buys music any more"....
You can play any music if its in a file format. What im trying to get at is to just digitize the CD so you can play it in game.
^This. Since OpenMic isn't even an option for you, local music files are really the only way you can play this game with anything beyond the built-in soundtrack.
I get where you are coming from with wanting to pop a CD into a drive and play directly from that, but that would require building in a completely different system for indexing those tracks and the need to connect to yet another service in order to ID them. While it may technically be doable, that would be quite a bit of work for something that would be used by a very small number of players.
I ripped my old CD collection to FLAC in order to use it all in this game. It was a bit of a chore to convert it all, but I think it was worth it in the end. Now I can just fire up the game and play whatever I want.
I buy most stuff on CD still too.
Dont like Streaming and ddl onlineshops might not have the stuff i want.... or have a Region lock on it and can't be bought Digital here....
I mean yeah, I use CDs as well, I have thousands of them (and that's not an exaggeration). I always find it so odd when people seem to not even comprehend the fact it's trivial to get music from a CD to a hard drive to the point they will actually pay extra for a digital version...
You probably could index a CD already if you want....the problem would be, everytime the game changes randomly a track it wont be found if it is not on the currently inserted CD.
Modes where Music is randomly selected would not work as a lot of tracks would not be found.
Most tracks on CDs are not tagged (there are some where the titles are tagged by the distributor).
Using a Online Database to index the tracks with that is a bad idea as one CD can have Multiple Entries......and some of those might even not be correct (i had to correct titles because of writing errors of the contributor to the db).
If one has a CD drive in the pc/an external drive already it would be for that person way easier to rip the cds onto their harddrive or network storage as no one would want to fiddle with cds just for a game/on PC.
All I play is CD's that I personally own. Never used the streaming services or open mic. I'm sure they're fine, but I guess I'm old school, I prefer the physical media to the digital. It work great with my CD rips and even vinyl / cassette rips. Just gotta make sure the game has recognized where your music is on your PC, other than that, the music you have on physical media works just fine.
Fellow CD purchaser here also! I rip the music onto my PC for not only just using on PC but for preservation.
