That english review is terrible, clearly he has no effing idea what Asterix is even about. But at least he can recognize great gameplay where it counts.

Haven't read it yet in detail TBH, the French one is interesing and brings enough information to convince me to buy the game on Day 1. Whenever Day 1 is.
Looney Tunes and Cartoon Network... :steamlaughcry:

game is amazing, its fantastic i love it, the art and all its like reading a real asterix comic and going back to all the good adventures they had lol
I am big fan of Asterix comic books since mid 90s - when I was 6 years old and my enthusiasm is still going strong, so couldn't wait for this...
PC version was my primary choice, but meanwhile I had a luck to try Nintendo Switch version and gather with friends for some co-op action...

I haven't completed the whole game but here are my preliminary impressions so far:

PROS
  • In terms of visuals and art style, the most beautiful Asterix & Obelix game ever! :)
  • Every frame and second of gameplay feels like an interactive comic.
Yellow "bubbles" while hitting enemies - bang, paf, poff etc are icing on the cake
  • Level intros and story telling are in comic book style
  • All side characters and plot locations are based on comic book stories and bring many cool and legendary lines from it.

He'll be hunting boars with his bare hands.

Huh??? Is there another way?
  • Great voice acting
I especially like Obelix and his catchy "Goody, goody" line
  • Cheerful music that nicely fits the concept.
CONS
  • Well, I know this is Beat 'em up genre, but sometimes smashing and slapping all over again feels too repetitive...
I expected a bit more elements of classical platforming, some jumping / falling, basic puzzles, etc to cool down from fast going pace and enjoy scenery.
  • Enemies, especially Roman legionnaires could be having a bit more variations - there is like only a few faces/types
It is only a visual / cosmestic aspect, but seeing the same faces all over again adds to the repetitiveness feeling...
  • Legendary menhir, which is so often carried and used by Obelix - is not featured at all, as far as I have seen.
Maybe not to be carried permanently as in XXL3, but at certain parts and stages - menhir could be nice fighting addition to Obelix
  • As sometimes in comics, Dogmatix could have a bit more prominent role, instead of just running around and growling in background

Etc.
Thanks a lot for your review ! Looking forward to playing this game. I am probably going to play it once in a while with my mother (we used to be big fans of the Arcade version back in the 90s) so I hope that I won't feel that repetitiveness much.
