characters and everything else wiped
Not sure if this was intentional, but my PC froze in the middle of a boss fight, then when i restarted and logged back in all progress was erased for all my characters. Hopefully this doesnt happen on launch for the game, as that would make anyone quit the game.

Can I ask did you change computers when that happened? That's highly unusual.

No. I only have 1 PC and there is only 1 user on it. when it happened i had just failed a run on floor 32, my PC froze. I turned it off and back on launched steam, then the demo and characters, copper, and silver were all wiped.

That's horrible. I'm sorry about that. I think I know what happened and while I don't have a way to prevent that from happening if a PC freeze just as it's saving the game, I'm going to make it #1 priority to get backup save files. That way if something like that or anything else bad happens, at least you can just grab a recent save and play on.

Build 49 and on has backup save files now. It will take more work to get them integrated into the game in a way that a casual user can understand. But at the very least, for now, there are backup save files in the save directory that can be copied over to replace the primary save file just in case something like this happens.

The save system is a bit ugly. The save files for Tor Eternum are stored at
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\IsolatedStorage\X\Y\Z\AssemFiles\PlayerDoc.txt

X, Y, Z are all just a series of random letters, but there should only be one folder in each of these locations. You just need to dig into each of them until you find the one that has PlayerDoc.txt with the most recent file modified date.

Take one of the backup PlayerDoc#.txt's with a modified date from before when you lost your data and replace the PlayerDoc.txt. This will replace your save file from that time.

If you lose your save data, make sure not to play the game too much or else it will replace all of the backups with the new save data. There are 50 backup save files to hopefully give people time to realize that their save data is lost and find this post before they play too much and destroy their backups.

It's a bit of a janky solution, but until I have time to make a nice UI for it, this will make sure nobody permanently loses their save file and can't do anything to fix it.
