Why I like a leveling system
So I'm tryin to pinpoint why I don't love the combat and I think it's because outside of mats in which if you don't need the mats they drop, the time fighting anything is fairly useless. With experience systems I feel everything I do is contributing to my character getting stronger.

My gear isn't maxed so maybe that's the true answer to combat feeling better but there's a bit more, so I'm 23 24 hours in and I'm finding enemies to be just a nuisance more than fun and the reason being is there's no motivation behind killing them especially if you don't need their mats.

So when I see 3 or 4 or so enemies, normally with a leveling system your mindset is that while the fights might take a bit each enemy I kill I'll get that experience to get stronger and as I level and get better gear, I'll be able to kill faster.

Until you find the mats killing 10000 enemies is meaningless, know what I mean? And I'm just still not in love roti how 2H combat feels, I got my 2H ice blade and when I see 3 or 4 enemies i feel the same as I did 20 hours ago.

Just a perspective, I'm enjoying the game but It hammers home that I don't love simply a gear based system.

A late upgrade to Casmyn's caravan allows you to take your generic salvaged materials and use them to buy any other material you want. 5-star materials are pricey, but it can save you the hassle of fighting dozens of bosses to make the best gear possible.

Yea I was seeing in some videos that option open up which is helpful.

I just wish tho it did have a level system because I am one that actually does like to grind enemies, it always made sense to me in the realm of games that the more you kill the better you get so it's why I think it forever adds a better purpose.

But yea that's good thats an option.

Problem is that you have to actively go out of your way to make the majority of the game relevant v maybe 1 enemy per area. An optional enemy, for the spell. If you kill it "right" for the drop... which the game doesn't explain as far as I got. Killed giant lizard, no mantle. Why not? Dunno, there was no dialogue until I killed it and it said no.
All the basic enemies you can just ragdoll to death with no issue.
Since you can do that, there's no need to care about upgrading v them, 99% of the game.
So they also become completely optional and pointless.

That's the thing tho I'm getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around when I get surrounded, some of these enemies feel like mini bosses but maybe I'm just to far in the main story without proper gear.

I like the game but I'm finding some stuff totally aggrevating. I mean I get thru but I'm not finding the combat enjoyable or the hunt for mats at this point of the game. It just doesn't feel like natural progression.

Yea but when your surrounded what is stopping you from just running past them?

Well I mean yea I do at times but it's when I'm tryin to get something right there, can't pick codex or things up when they're bogged down on you and Im still tryin to find mats, so when I kill these enemies in the institute for instance.. I'm just looking for stuff to increase my gear, it feels like something that I can't just run past if I want to increase my damage for later stuff.
