Bout 20 hours in, what are you using mid game? (spoilers)
So the surge enemies rolled in and I'm wondering what you guys were using for these? The enemy progression difficulty sorta ramped up there and I'm finding these enemies I am beating on for a long time.

Using a fire sword with 88 dmg. I have a 2h kinetic as well, but are there other upgrades that are going to pack an even better punch?

Frost 2h + graps (smash them into the ground and pummel them with heavy attack 3x in row as it usually stuns them, so you can keep going at on them.) Use special frost attack when you're low/out of stamina, it'll root them in place.
That's what I was doing and had a pretty easy time fighting them.

I've found both fire and ice 2-handers are quite effective. Most enemies can't stand up against the charged triple hit, so quickly freezing them with an ice wall and then beating them senseless gets the job done quick well in most cases.

Winter's Gauntlet is also very effective, allowing you to trade blows with the surgeborn, and then finish them off with an icy explosion once their armor wears off. Just make sure you rip away the shield with Weaver's Grasp or else you'll spend a lot of time getting blocked.

The ice bow is also fairly effective. Alternating between tracking freeze shots and normal shots to break through the armor and eventually shatter the enemy. Remember that upgrading the weapon to a higher level also increases the effectiveness of the special attack, meaning more tracking arrows at higher levels.

And also worth noting is I'm using the Windscall armor. The massive boost in mana regen allows for extremely frequent use of magic.

I'm like 40 hours in on GamePass but I tend to get distracted just running around killing things and full clearing maps before I move on. Pretty much at the same point as you. Been running with the flame sword, ice two hander, and kinetic bow with magic regen armor.

stuck by the firebow and kinetic 2 hander for the entire playthrough. served well enough once you know how to dodge and weave attacks and magic in. was tempted to switch the 2hander to an elemental but i didnt want to lose the easy upward traversal with the kinetic.

early to mid was mostly on opportunist(increased max mana) armor. even a good chunk of the late game. swapped to nameless (increased max stamina) set once ive gotten all the blueprints.

you should definitely push to get your gear at the max level of what sola's workshop can do so you dont feel to weak. i remember only doing 30 damage to the surgeborn hounds when i first hit those areas.

remember that you also need to get the best materials on your gear. ironheart crystals and lustweaves should be plentiful enough within all levels of dynevron to be able to swap mats
So is the ice 2h better than the kinetic? I just got the pattern for the ice 2h gonna forge it tomorrow.

Yea I gotta advance story a bit more to get sola unlocked another level.

I never found a good use for the kinetic 2-hander. It's a strong hit, but it mainly just sent the enemy flying away and awkwardly ruined the flow of combat as I had to wait to fall back to the ground.

The ice 2-hander is a simple strong hit with multiple ice lines thrown out. You and the enemy stay grounded while they suffer the cold.

Awesome Im looking forward to getting one built.

Overall I'm happy I bought the game, it'll be a nice platinum when finished

I just used the bow and ice mine each time i got lifted up. Falling animation is long enough to get 1 or 2 shots.

Never bothered trying to do the slowdown bug from the demo but im also assuming it got patched out
So how far in is a question of loyalty?
So I will say I got my 2H flame sword leveled up and that cyclone fire attack is really nice, takes out surge so much faster... That was really needed.

The one enemy I hate more than a thing are those armored lizard things the fat ones, those suck so bad no matter what I use. I just throw them off a cliff but they suck

lvl3 flame breath can kill those, just gotta keep aiming at it. but yeah the glacial sliders suck so much. up close you gotta have cold resist to not take enviro damage, meanwhile the bow does no damage unless using elemental enhanced attacks

That's the thing that's weird is even when cranking those those with fire they're still just clobbering you lol they suck so bad.

See what I dislike is how we are faced with differing elements all throughout stages so it's like you can't always truly prepare or change on the fly.

But man that fire 2h really helped with the surge enemies

I'm using mostly kinetic sword+shield and kinetic two-hander. The kinetic sword+shield is great for playing defensively because its ability catches projectiles out of the air without the need to switch or ready spells. And you can use it to throw away enemies you don't want to fight - again, without needing to switch spells or get into spellcasting stance.

I find during normal fights, the kinetic two-hander's ability is really only useful for getting rid of enemies, but like Hades said, it has good utility as a way to jump really high, even outside of combat. And it's helpful for getting up on boss arks without having to climb up their legs or waiting for their arms to get close enough to the ground.
