Oh crap guys, they found out about the purple elf dude in a fantasy game! We can't have a diverse party of characters unless they're going on a trip to a volcano with their finest jewelry.
I've not seen anything to suggest this is "woke trash" so far. You have fantasy races, not shades of 1 colour, classic fantasy games always had weird fantasy races. It's just here you have Zelda bird people instead of orcs, for example.
I talked to the party members before starting the first main quest after the prologue/tutorial zone and went to the first new area, and I haven't seen any moronic immersion-breaking current year speak.
At least as of right now, I disagree.

I love how female character means woke stuff for these rejected kids nowdays
iLockAlot Jan 22 @ 7:45am
They went into great detail about woke/DEI in a prior discussion thread. Think you’d be surprised. Just bc there is a female main doesn’t mean it’s woke.
The game story centres around this female character, so this is probably why you dont get to pick a gender, its a fantasy story so it doesnt really matter, and if it does, Than this isnt a story/game for you.

Multiracial people in a white fantasy setting is the core definition of woke. Stop trying to gaslight, you're bad at it.

I played through some of the Demo and didn't notice anything woke. Couldn't play more as my PC crashed,..potatoe PC :)

Anything in specific you found stood out during the demo?

Edit:
I watched most of the demo on YouTube now and could not see signs of forced DEI or any woke political agendas being shuffled down my throat. The video skipped a good bit of dialogue but not all of it.

the dialogue I could see felt a bit cringy and seems written for a younger audience (teens maybe?) but that aside, from what I saw, the game didn't seem to preach about the importance of diversity and equality grounded in our "real world" but focused on the story and mechanics.

When you played the demo, did you find the game preachy and agenda driven?

Maybe it does a switch and bait like DA: Veilguard, hiding the worst of it well into the game, but we have to wait for that.

Other than the elf guy being basically a comic relief character who listens to his brilliant and competent black queen and acts like an idiot, the dialogue seemed mostly cringy, but fine, though now that I've progressed further, either the librarian/codex character Laen has schizophrenia, or """they""" are a current year buzzword. Unless she is canonically some sort of schizophrenic or a Jekyll and Hyde/Hulk situation.
It really is so tiresome.
What possible purpose does this have? To sell 3 more copies? Do you not realize how stupid and immersion-breaking a game looks if you put 2025 zeitgeist made up concepts in a high fantasy setting? It would be like giving a medieval castle builder zoomer lingo.
"Ayo deadass bruh I'm finna build some watchtowers rn fr on god no cap 🙏🏻.
Ayo twin, dem fireballs you cast are straight fire 🔥, dawg. Bro think he a Balrog😂!
Who let lich bro cook 👨‍🍳?
This Flamestrike SENT ME! 😫
OMG it's giviiiiing warlock vibes 💫".

Why do this? How is this not "driving an agenda"?

I mean , it´s a a group of mostly women, who all talk about how great and competent each other are. Out of the two men one is more feminine than his according to him awesome and competent girlfriend, the other one is a non human who as far as I noticed is the one in the group who is most vocal about being scared.

None of the women is conventionally attractive or have an appealing design , they barely have feminine body shapes(not saying the art style is bad or off putting just saying the designs don´t stand out to me , I don´t think "wow this chars looks cool/good" they are okay.

At least two of them you could use male voice actors and say they where men and it would not look out of place , that´s the main char and the blue one that stumbled who I thought was a man until she spoke, the game has a distinct art style so it´s not like Oblivion where everyone looks like bloated potatoes either so it´s obviously a choice. The feminine man displays his purple pecs but the women barely have female shapes.

did not get far enough to read any "they them " codex entries.

The diversity of the group and all female none attractive characters to me looks like the product OF an AGENDA even if the game itself is not actively pushing it.
Much like buff men and sexy women where the thing in the 80´s (notice how female characters are athletic ,feminine and often in some sort of leotard in 80´s comics) even though that came about more naturally by it´s own evolution and this feminism and diversity stuff is the product of a more hands on attempt at reconstructing societal norms.

But this is the vision the developers have and it´s certainly within their prerogative to make the game they want to make. Now I don´t know if the developers actively thought about this but the game is certainly a product of it´s time.
that´s my take.
Now feel free to flame me and say I´ve never touched a woman etc.
Even though I´m probably buying the game because there´s parts of it I really like and nothing in the game stood out as directly off-putting.

I think you are correct in all respects.

The saddest thing is that I don't believe that the devs are pushing any kind of agenda. I think it's just how they view the world.

The overton window has shifted so far that this is the new norm, to them.

This is unfortunate. I was looking forward to playing this game, but the character writing and design put me off too much. Couldn't even finish the demo.

None of this is wrong, but I would be willing to at least make some concessions if it weren't for the stupid schizo codex "non-binary" character. That was my breaking point.
You can't reasonably say you are not pushing an agenda when you shove completely made up modern year concepts WITH their modern world lingo in a high fantasy setting. It just cannot work. "It's just a black beemer with 19 inch rims, why can't you accept it? Yes, this medieval kingdom had german cars! You are so narrow-minded."
All of this, however, still is a shame. I never, ever go into a game with the intend to dislike it. But because I don't NEED to play game X or Y, even though it may appeal to me in some aspects, I also don't NEED to make concessions.
I have nothing against the devs and I wish them luck, I just won't support them and they're not being honest. I hope the extra 3 sales from twitter/discord users who subscribe to the same world view are worth it.

Same. I lost interest in the demo, too. UE5 issues didn't help, either. It really pains me when something really grabs me and then this crap seeps in. I have wanted a colourful, classic fantasy vibrant world ever since Kingdoms of Amalur. Desperately. Other than Trine, VERY few games have this. Then the cool magic system made me excited too, reminded me of Lichdom Battlemage or Dragon's Dogma.
But if you can't push your personal 2025 california worldview aside to make a completely neutral, classic fantasy world that is entirely free of any modern world crap of any kind so people can engage in something beautiful-looking for an escapist out to the already drab in many ways reality they live in, the problem is with you, not with them.
