Is it possible to ship from an island directly to your carrier?
If so, how exactly do I set up the logistics?

I have tried island to carrier (yellow line) with barge to island (green line going from barge to island). This didn't work.

Do you need to always ship to a warehouse first?

you need more than 1 barge

I had two barges at the time I tried to set up what I outlined above

Neither barge would deliver from the island directly to my carrier.

you know, i was thinking that instead of having preset island factories, a player should chose what kind of factory to build in conquered islands.
Since every new game is different than the previous, some islands could repeat themselves in goodies and kinda soft-lock you before fighting higher tier islands.

Bump. Can someone who has actually successfully shipped items from an island directly to the carrier (not to a warehouse) please read the OP and explain step by step how to make this work?

If the barge you're trying to use for this is already doing something, you might have to cancel requests first, so that it goes idle, and then request again. If the barge is already assigned to multiple islands, you can drag to an already assigned island to remove that assignment. Also worth noting that I think only one island can be linked to the carrier at a time, so after you're done you'd have to link the warehouse back to the carrier again.

Link the island to your carrier, then link the barge to the island. Assuming you've ordered the right things it will deliver straight to your carrier. If that doesn't work, try additionally linking the barge to your carrier. Works for me 100% of the time.

When you say "ordered the right things", are you saying I need to order what the island produced to be delivered to my carrier? How do I do that? It seems I can only order items from the warehouse, not from individual islands

How do you cancel a request to a barge?

To get a island that isn't a warehouse to deliver directly to your carrier you have to have that island linked to your carrier with a barge attached to that island that is idle.
Then you have the island produce the resources you want, and make sure you set the carrier's logistics to be requesting said materials.

The carrier can only have one island linked to it at any one point of time, which is why warehouses are used~ They're centerpoints for supplies to be generally delivered so you don't have to change up your supply lines every time you need something new. Theres no doubt there'd be simple ways to achieve a easier system to work with, but I think the point of this one is so that you can knock out supply lines. Its a shame that the AI doesn't seem to have a care for supply lines so for now its just a player-side hassle that such tactics would really matter.

As a note, Barges linked to building specifically work on shipping 'from' that location, to whatever location they are linked to presuming its a warehouse or a requesting carrier, so you can divide up your barges in importance of said supply made at different factories. I myself tend to have one barge exclusively focused on transporting my chassis to the warehouse and several dedicated to shipping from the warehouse to the carrier.

I think the orders you put up from a warehouse also count for islands. You just have to make sure that what you want is available on that island, either by producing it there (click on the island on the logistics map, click on the item you want on the new screen, enter order), or by connecting the islands in a chain up to your carrier, making sure that every island along the way has at least one barge to carry on the load.

I have personally not yet tried to deliver directly to my carrier from an island, instead I've just always assigned the vast majority of my barges to the warehouses, and 1 or 2 individual barges to each factory.
I do sometimes assign one barge to multiple factories if they are low throughput, such as Utility ones.

How do you cancel a request to a barge?

Barges complete orders in batches, once they're on one, they can't be stopped til they've done the whole pickup/unload at destination thing. Which makes having them conveniently positioned for direct shipments to the carrier a difficult thing to manage.
Ender Aug 12, 2021 @ 9:43am
If the barge you want to use is already headed to the warehouse to pick up stuff, you might be able to get it idle by setting all the request numbers to zero on the stock screen. Your best bet though to make sure the barge isn't already dead set on doing something else is to use a fresh one you've just produced on a barge island. You can also check if any barges are already idle on the barge screen.

AH that is hopefully the missing link there. I didn't realize that the stockpile screen allowed you to request from islands as well. Going to try that out now thank you!

On a somewhat related note, is there a way to order a barge to take items from one warehouse to another one?

Warehouses can be linked to each other, I presume that means any barges assigned to the warehouse linked will ship anything in the first one to the newest assigned. I haven't gotten a chance to test this myself however.
