I had two barges at the time I tried to set up what I outlined above
Neither barge would deliver from the island directly to my carrier.
Since every new game is different than the previous, some islands could repeat themselves in goodies and kinda soft-lock you before fighting higher tier islands.
When you say "ordered the right things", are you saying I need to order what the island produced to be delivered to my carrier? How do I do that? It seems I can only order items from the warehouse, not from individual islands
How do you cancel a request to a barge?
Then you have the island produce the resources you want, and make sure you set the carrier's logistics to be requesting said materials.
The carrier can only have one island linked to it at any one point of time, which is why warehouses are used~ They're centerpoints for supplies to be generally delivered so you don't have to change up your supply lines every time you need something new. Theres no doubt there'd be simple ways to achieve a easier system to work with, but I think the point of this one is so that you can knock out supply lines. Its a shame that the AI doesn't seem to have a care for supply lines so for now its just a player-side hassle that such tactics would really matter.
As a note, Barges linked to building specifically work on shipping 'from' that location, to whatever location they are linked to presuming its a warehouse or a requesting carrier, so you can divide up your barges in importance of said supply made at different factories. I myself tend to have one barge exclusively focused on transporting my chassis to the warehouse and several dedicated to shipping from the warehouse to the carrier.
I think the orders you put up from a warehouse also count for islands. You just have to make sure that what you want is available on that island, either by producing it there (click on the island on the logistics map, click on the item you want on the new screen, enter order), or by connecting the islands in a chain up to your carrier, making sure that every island along the way has at least one barge to carry on the load.
I have personally not yet tried to deliver directly to my carrier from an island, instead I've just always assigned the vast majority of my barges to the warehouses, and 1 or 2 individual barges to each factory.
I do sometimes assign one barge to multiple factories if they are low throughput, such as Utility ones.
Barges complete orders in batches, once they're on one, they can't be stopped til they've done the whole pickup/unload at destination thing. Which makes having them conveniently positioned for direct shipments to the carrier a difficult thing to manage.
AH that is hopefully the missing link there. I didn't realize that the stockpile screen allowed you to request from islands as well. Going to try that out now thank you!
Warehouses can be linked to each other, I presume that means any barges assigned to the warehouse linked will ship anything in the first one to the newest assigned. I haven't gotten a chance to test this myself however.
