Check out Executive Assault 2. Its probably the closest thing you can have to this game. Except instead of controlling things from a vessel you are controlling it from a Headquarters building and also a vessel if you so chose.

It is a space ship systems management game, but without windows to look out at the 3D environment.

not overly carrier command in carrier command u have a more active combat setup u see ur ship and enamys and having fighter craft u can launch n so on

i literally wrote a letter in the 80's to microprose about carrier command suggesting "star command" or something like that, the space version, planets instead of islands etc the whole deal

Unfortunately there is NOTHING like Carrier Command 2 in a space setting. Lets hope that someone will be able to make it soon. The suggested games are indeed very good but not Carrier Command 2 like.

Seems neat, although it doesn't feature ship interiors by the looks of it, which is one of the appeals of carrier command 2, personally.
