single player
I'm not likely to do much multiplayer. Is it worth it on SP? I watched some videos and it looks quite interesting. Though maybe the running around might get old ... with so much to manage maybe having hotkeys for the stations might make some sense in single player.

YMMV when it comes to solo play. Although it's nice and immersive, it's lacking certain features that RTS games made after 1993 had (drag select, decent pathfinding, reliable AI targeting [it's getting better, admittedly!], unit formations/hold-fire/attack-move commands) and technically is kind of a step back when it comes to a solo RTS experience. The enemy AI isn't exactly groundbreaking, let's say.
It truly shines in multiplayer where even just one other friend can help you out in operations to command vehicles and help manage and experience everything.

Maybe check back after some more patches have gone through. It's a hard recommend at its current price point.

There's a lot to do to run the carrier, and the experience is definitely better with a few friends. I'm not sure I would pull the trigger if it was just for solo play.

If you have played something like Bridge Crew or Pulsar by yourself and had fun with it, then it's probably right up your alley.

I do dig Bridge Crew but that had the cool command console/pad for issuing orders, from what I see on this one you have to run back and forth to the different stations. Hmm, I'm almost never this uncertain on a game . ... it looks really interesting but there seem to be too many questions I have about it

As long as you accept that the A.I. isn't brilliant and that AA units (especially when they are in water) will be a source of frustration then it's perfectly fine in single player.

I'd recommend getting the UI mod as that helps streamline things a bit.

You will be running around the carrier deck like crazy but it is fun.

If you like your strategy slow then you'll be alright with this.

I've got 25 hours under the belt, all solo so far. Good fun! I'd say, if this looks appealing to you but you're concerned about the multi-tasking, it's perfectly doable on your own- a lot less work than, say, bridge command or the like. AI is smart enough to at least rely on a little bit while you tend to your heading and speed. If you're more worried about the time pressure that the enemy carrier would give- there is a very easy little cheat to "neuter" the enemy carrier, so you can practice, fight and capture the islands, and mooch around as much as you like at your own pace, and the enemy carrier will just sit there, not capturing islands.

I was just looking at Highfleet as well ... much better as a SP game I suppose but doesn't seem to have the depth of this one. Ah well I'll wait and see how this one shapes up going forward.

If only Microprose would do another Gunship game ... :)

1.08 patch significantly improves rotary strafing runs IMO from a bit of play tonight with a friend.

IME, all move orders are attack moves, and there are go commands you can set at waypoints to get units to wait until you give the order, but the problem with the game is the documentation is ♥♥♥♥ so you have to learn via tribal knowledge or experimentation. Click everything.

It's true there's no click and drag though, which initially I questioned as a needed feature, but ground unit command would improve with it (just not air).
