For sure there were defence options in the original hopefully it makes it in somehow. Im patient think a few things are on the to do list and thats ok
Not sure about sensor range nd leaving units behind i thought there was a max distance before they went dead but i havent tried. But with all the turrets and gear already in inventory just needs some 'chassis' for a defence building to airlift in maybe.
You can leave vehicles behind too but I don't know about fuel usage.
Idling vehicles don't use fuel.
To avoid this you can build a few turrets to force the AI into a fight. Generally CIWS and IR-missile turrets work best, make sure every turret has at least one CIWS defender as the AI will be incapable of defeating the island defenses with enough DAKA, or at least will be occupied long enough to send a QRF.
On the subject of leaving behind units I recomend leaving behind a seal with a RADAR to spot the enemy carrier from a distance not only forcing it to render and eat up precious time but also spotting it on the map so you can see where it is, where its facing and track its progress.
Also, shame we are unable to build the potent 40mm Turrets. The IR are good, 30mm are meh, and CIWS are good for their role.
