Too close together?

So just had a go at the game, reminds me a lot of One Finger Death Punch.

But I'm having huge issues where zombies end up close to the player character either side, so no matter if you shoot left or right you're dead regardless.
I don't mind too much given it's meant to be one of those "short burst" games, but it's no fun dying every five or so shots. I think the zombies need to be a bit more spaced out, and not so close to the player to begin with.

Also pressing Q after receiving a drop has NOT been working asides from inside the tutorial.
