Random question about shadows
I recently cleared the ambush supply line map and I'm not sure how its really supposed to work. Units who walked the max movement was able to spot me and attack me in the shadow. Is it based on ambush tiles? You were supposed to wait and ambush the main group which I did on like turn 3 or 4 but are the groups of enemies nearby supposed to spot you no matter what?

Side question, but how do you decide which color dragon you want? I kind of just made whatever dragon rider I can in the moment.

Can't answer the main question immediately, although if i get time later i can try to do a bit of digging into that.

For dragons though, there's certainly some nuances around but reds just really are loaded for this.

Damage has a few core factors:
- offensive parameters
- defensive parameters
- crit multipliers
- action multipliers

all 3 dragons use the same defensive paremeters and those depend on the target.

They use the same crit multipliers, although blue has the best skill to actually pull it off, red has the second highest multiplier there with silver having the worst, These are still match up dependent however as its based on the difference in skill.

Offensive parameters (with multipliers for each) for dragons are:
- 2.5% of current HP (silver has the highest multiplier at 1.45x, followed by blue at 1.3x, red at 1.2x)
- 100% of weapon (identical on all 3)
- 200% strength (highest on red at 1.5x, identical on the other 2 at 1.25x)
- 200% magic (highest on red at 1.6x, identical on the other 2 at 1.25x)

then we get to the action multiplier...
red is 85%
blue is 80%
silver is 65%

red just hits like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ truck in comparison...

Only silver dragons actually apply status - at an identical rate to ice mages, though they hit at most 4 units if things are placed a very peculiar way, realistically at most 2, ice mages hit upwards of 7 with that same very peculiar placement, but realistically 5 is more reasonable for a cap.

Blue's only selling point is crits. And with only 2 trait slots this really becomes a case of how much you want to invest in here to try and compensate for the damage. Crits are dependent on a difference in skill primarily and dragons base growth is about average (though blues get a 1.85x multiplier)

Damage formulas also tend to use strength and magic as resistance factors - which brings us to the following TLDR;

- do you want a bulky dragon? Red
- do you want a high damage dragon? Red
- do you want a status dragon? far better options available but Silver.

only other difference is they do take different amounts of damage against the corresponding mage... and from other dragons of the same color. But that's very specifically a match up based situation.

Red dragon has the best stats, and wizards are better for applying statuses, so red is the best.

So it sounds like I randomly got the worst ones. Maybe its easier to reach the stat requirement for silver but I only have one red and 4 silver.
You can also use affinity scrolls to boost some stats; you want a blue dragon, make it lightning, dark scrolls are great for red dragons since it boosts both their damage stats (atk & mag)

In terms of shadows, the only affect they have are the ability to ambush

I beat the game yesterday so I don't think it matters anymore. That being said, I did end up getting a few more red dragons by the end.

For that map it just felt weird that the main supply group would really ignore you until one guy just happened to stop right next to me.

Far easier.

Just as a quick reference you will require Level 48 for a dragon to reach the red requirements without items or RNG letting you get it earlier, and assuming a neutral affinity.

You only need 32 for silver with the same assumptions.

RNG increases growth rate, and is checked whenever a growth occurs, which in turn means it favours stats that the class grows faster. Add on that RNG can't slow the growth, just alters how far above the minimum you are, and it just further aids silver growth.

And for anyone curious, its 35 for blue in comparison.
