wellllll misunderstanding then
Archers have high STR and pretty good SKL growth. Firearms have the highest weapon growth. The idea was, just start with what Archers get, decrease STR and SKL, and increase weapon.
We don't think it's necessary or a good use of your mental energy to try to time/delay promotions, it has a very minimal effect on the end product if at all, and class archetypes growths are *not* affected by tier and are suitable to their role
This is a common thing players have learned to do in other RPGs with job systems that they don't need to do here
Oh my misunderstanding. So this whole conversation really caught my curiosity as it was something that I planned to look into in the past but never got around to. So today I have! Below you will see two separate gunners. One who originally started as a bowman, the other a fighter. Both have fire affinity to limit variables (lightning would be ideal for the +SKL/crit). You'll notice they are nearly identical with small variation in SKL. The big difference I notice however is the hp value. The gunner who was originally a fighter has almost 20% more hp.

I think the takeaway is that both make fine gunners & are nearly identical but if you want to min/max that little extra hp from fighter conscript could save you in a pinch.
a) Paladins crazily high threat.
b) few artifacts with stupidly high threat multipliers.
Technically you can make 8-9 cannon squad untouchable too but that will require some luck with getting broken artifacts.
