Also the similarities are only true for the Tactics Ogre Spin-Offs. March of the black queen and Let us swing together are the two coming mind right now.
The Original is basically a 1993 blend of conquering a different regional Map every stage utiizing a pausable Real-Time system and Grid-Based Auto-Battler fights.
Between stages the troop management was pretty much the same as it is in the Tactics Ogre games. The whole formation thing is a difference ofc since you have to make your own squads by placing the characters on a 3x3 grid where the action they will be using depends on wether they placed in front, mid, or back row . Closest thing to that i've seen in other games would be rooms in Soul Nomad and the Wife Beaters.
perhaps more like Dragon Force on Sega Saturn ?
