Once you max out your faction rank you start getting Proof of Merits for small but slowly increasing amounts of faction stars. Not sure exactly how much it starts at, I got a couple right off the bat as soon as I maxed it out and then it was still taking I think 50 for the next one, and it was going up relatively slowly, I think I got about 10 or so from bonus ranks by the end.
It's the only way to really kit out your force after you max classes because barring RNG drops there's a pretty limited amount of Proof of Merits in the game - I think I got only about 12-15 total from the various treasure chests and RNG drops, but then in the last few missions I got about another 10 from the rank ups, it was a BIG power difference from meriting all my mages and swordmasters.
Gold honestly only matters in the very early game, I'm in the process of doing my Warlord playthrough right now and I've already got 30k in the bank despite buying 2x Orange mercs and pretty much every artifact and resource I wanted at the trader and bazaars.
Thank you - didn't know that. Can you describe how to get 30k? And your strategy to capture units? (I am at chapter 9) I have a dragon with Overpower trait (morale damage when STR is higher) and trait Colossus (Morale damage) but morale drops to "shattered" only when I kill a leader...
For gold just make sure you capture every objective and open every chest, don't spend any money on recruits that don't have the right elemental attribute (Earth SUCKS), and make sure you do Arenas as soon as you have the tokens and get S rank for the extra gold. ESPECIALLY make sure you buy any Arena tokens in shops or bazaars, they will pay for themselves no problem.
For surrendering, I don't use any particular strategy early, but since your units are pretty weak without upgraded mages you don't tend to kill them on teh first turn, just make sure that any enemy with 'Shaken' or 'Shattered' you use Force Surrender.
Much weaker units even if they have high morale use Force Surrender on them anyway even if at max morale, because using Force Surrender, when you kill units about half of them will still surrender when they get KOed. Particularly useful on those archer units they have, as they aren't dangerous at all and they die so easy.
I also usually have 1 or 2 weak units that are in the process of leveling up that follow my deathballs whose only purpose is force surrendering Shattered units - its a great way to level up weak units because they still get the XP and Class Mastery for force surrendering a unit they could never beat.
