they look and play exactly by same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rules what game desinger is try to force on you
like in shadow dragon prologue - hey you need to SACRIFIce one of your soldiers
also love the name of the developer (intelligent systems)))
more like dumbbells system if you ask me :D
I played FE 3 and 4 presumably.
The thing i hate from FE is their finite durability weapon, random level up bonus, and too many RNG for evasion or extra attack turn mechanics.
Making things are kind of feast or famine situation most of the time.
You dodge you survive you didn't, you die.
You get extra attack you keal, you didn't, the enemy will keal you during the next turn.
And everyone's opinion will be different on this since it is all RNG stat gain when level up.
Either +1 atk +HP, +1 HP, or even worse, nothing at all.
I had to save often when someone is about to level up back then.
Mage and Archer are almost kind of identical there also.
Just range unit with trade-offs between each other.
I also own this SRPG studio, RPG maker like software based on FE machanics.
SoW is more subtle when giving out damage.
Level up is less RNG, and there're stat improving items to fills the lack.
Also it has more unit in a squad making AoE is more relavant, and when someone dies in the squad, it will not instantly crumbles. There's also team synergy.
No permium death. Not a typo.
Means, a perma death unless you pay premium, the coveted resurrection rod.
All and all making FE was more frustrating to play with.
And SoW is kinda more enjoyable, and satisfying.
Like destroying a full squad is more satisfying than killing a lone general with plot armor RNG. Hear the sound when weapons hitting multiple units, rather than one.
in sow as far understand they got permadeath as an option
but like you said its all about ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gameplay overall and gameplay mechanics
That's why back in a days langrisser was so much superior game and still are - as a Japanese or j style tactical rpg.
Symphony of war - got management - the crucial part of this games.
Equipment, scrolls, artifacts, and your main character HAVE an army - not being just one unit whatsoever.
Can't' wait for second game, this kinda of games is the future of tactical rpg's.
I then played thourgh a few of the older games and then got the newer ones as they came out, the latest one introduced a new feature named engage, where you, by using a ring that you need to have specifically on that character, basically can fusion with an older fire emblem character giving you special abilitys like teleportation, a long range attack, a damage tanking state with a counter after the enemys round, or simply blocking tiles. So they did change some things over the course of the releases.
a thing that i personally just love about the series is the information about the world and characters you can get through the conversations, i think thats probably a big argument for me.
i played dark deity and sow over the last time and i really have to say that i think these games are both great as well
to concentrate on sow, i like the whole organize army principle, and arranging squads the strategic aspects of the game and all of that which they have to offer, but i can as well see a few downsides to the game
of course nothing that would make the game bad, sow did really catch me
