I use force surrender and enemy does not surrender
I just finished side story C and I used force surrender so much, but after the fight I only got 3 captives. I don't know why since it worked well on my main story.

I heard that if I use force surrender and enemy refuses, I still capture the enemy who are defeated during the fight.

I think maybe morale is related to it, but not sure.

As DDG said: there are plenty of squads in the game that are hardened against surrender. They will fight to the death. If only healers remain, they will retreat instead of surrendering.

If the squad is able to surrender, the mechanic to pay attention to is morale. The higher the enemy morale, the less likely they will surrender. Dealing damage causes morale damage, killing enemies causes even more morale damage, and killing the enemy squad leader causes massive morale damage. Below morale status "Good" the enemy squad may surrender.

If the enemy refuses to surrender and fights you instead, you can still kill enemies and cause morale damage. If you kill enemies during a "Force Surrender" battle, they will all have a chance to surrender when the die based on their squads current morale. This continues over the course of the battle, so each death makes every next death more likely to be a surrender. Remember: the leader dying first means every other member is massively more likely to surrender.

Some additional ways to manipulate morale:
-Surround the enemy squad with more than 1 squad of your own
-Kill the enemy leader with archers before engaging in melee
-Use the "Terror" power
-The weather being scorching heat or freezing cold

Side story C has a lot of cultist squads that will not surrender. So even if you use force surrender, they will fight to the death
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thank you for the quick reply! I bought this game few days ago and really enjoying it!

May I ask more questions?

1.How can I tell if enemy squad is cultist or not?

2.When I use force surrender to normal enemies, some defeated units are displayed as surrendered and some are not. The latter means they also fought to death?

Also, I have some suggestions.

1.It would be good if I am able to know number of surrendered enemies during this fight and remaining chests.

2.I want to know more detailed formulas used in the game, but there is limited information I can get. It would be good if there are places where I can get such information.

Thank you!

The cultists will be noted as "fearless" morale

If they fade to white, they surrendered. If they fade to black, they fought to the death

Glad you are enjoying our game!
