Legends chapter 3B
I am playing on the highest difficulty (permadeath disabled). This is the first map that has actually felt unbeatable so far.

1. Does anyone have any tips on getting past this one?

2. Do I even get anything for beating this map? It really isn't fun, and I might just skip it.

We are making this chapter a little more forgiving by moving/adding friendly fort placements in the chokepoints, which should really help.

We are also adding 3 undead books and 6 marks of the risen (total in the map) that drop from certain enemies when they are defeated.

Undead squads have a very large number of densely-packed units, which start at low HP (only 2/3rds of their max, whereas normal enemies start at full). They also have no magic resistance. As a result of these characteristics, ice mages and sorceresses shred this map because they hit a large portion of the squad for huge damage, and they kill the undead before they can attack you and gain unlife essence.

Other than that, spamming AoE seems to be the way to go for dealing with undead.

I went at this on Chapter 21, first playthrough, and they just one-shot the main hero. So I put him in the keep and left his worthless squad there. But when the 3rd army wave hits, you just get yolo swaggins'd. My best squads can hold up, but even the A tier second best melts under the sheer numbers. I guess I will roll this again later on.

I completed both 3A & 3B as soon as they became available, so it's definitely doable when they first unlock....mainly by banging my head against a wall until I found a setup that worked for the most part, I had to retry several times on both maps.

As a general rule, you want the enemy Necromancers dead ASAP as they just make the Risen units resurrect even more while also hitting your full squad with an AOE lifesteal spell that heals their entire squad in the process. I had three very strong squads supported by a handful of weaker but still effective squads. The best way to get rid of any protected mid-row Necromancers is with polearm units, as they can hit both their main target and the unit directly behind them. In my experience this often left at least one Necromancer dead by the end of the battle, if not both (since some squads have two Necromancers rather than just one). And for those squads that have the Necromancer hiding in the back row, use Rogues/Assassins to get rid of them. Without the Necromancers around the Risen themselves become quite a bit more manageable, as they can't resurrect as quickly or as easily as they could with the Necromancer(s) still alive.

In 3B however, make sure you are exploiting your Nephilim powers, they are there for a reason, and they can really help make the mission more manageable. The squads I used as my three "main" squads were the protagonist, Diana, & Abigayle. My protagonist had a max-rank healer (I forgot the actual class name), a Necromancer, and an Oracle in the back ranks, and the rest of the squad consisted of defensive Risen units (if the enemy are going to be using Risen against me, then I'll just use Risen against THEM in return). Diana had two Paladins in the front rank alongside Diana herself, two Paladins behind the other two, and then three healers in the back. And Abigayle had Abigayle herself in the back flanked by two Dragon Riders, and then two Paladins in the front flanking a third Dragon Rider. It was rough, but I was able to win by using my weaker squads to mop up enemy squads that were left near death by my three main ones, while my main three squads focused on crippling the nastier squads as much as possible. My main goal was to make my three main squads as tough to kill as possible so that they could actually hold the line and keep most of the Risen away from Jaromir & Ragavi.

At least 3B has the luxury of a temple you can use to resurrect slain units (that aren't Risen, of course). The same can't be said for 3A.
