You do need to make sure that in the first battle you are the attacker, since you only start with 1 risen per unit and you need to deal damage to gain more. So the more damage you can deal in the first battle, the more risen you will have, thus becoming more durable and such.
Personally I'd have a full front rank of melee, full back rank of ranged, mid rank being necromancer + oracle (to prevent insta hits from enemy archers/mages) and then some spear.
The necromancer can heal itself through its magic attack and if its full health, it'll heal the oracle, whilst any lost risen can be regained while doing damage.
