Considering units are reset level wise, stat boosts aren't much use to spam prior to starting new game +. Though unless devs state otherwise, I haven't noticed any lasting gains from throwing stat boosts on old game characters transferred to new game+
Does this mean if I have a clear save from back near launch, I'm screwed and won't get any credit for it? Or can I update the game and beat the last level using my old save to get everything?
Yep, I tried this and it works.
(I actually had a quick save from right before the final boss died so it took 2 minutes.)
