What is the counter for Dirk in CHP 5?

My tank squad with Diana that takes little to no damage from anything in the chapter loses at least one, if not two, squad members to the 'boss' Dirk each time I attack. He seems to crit at least 50% of the time and 2 hit KO my front line from full hp. If none of my squads can attack him without losing members, is this battle MEANT to be won only by attrition?

I don't think there really is one besides good luck. You're really limited with what you can do at that point. Ranger's opening shot and the crossbows will deal heavy damage to armored units and Dirk is a champion so he just hits hard no matter what.

Unless you're playing on permadeath I wouldn't worry about it.

Essentially you need to be able to trade with his squad effectively; pummeling his morale is pretty hard and you'll need a full archer stack or two if you intend to spend a few turns "softening him up."

Losing a troop or two to Dirk is entirely normal; he's a Champion with wild stats.

If you're looking for a way to avoid reprisal on his turn I recommend putting a lower-threat squad nearby. His archers might convince the rest of his squad to bow your nearby low-threat team and leave whoever's in melee with him untouched on his turn.

I finally just retried attacking with different combos of guys until my squads all survived by a hair and I finished him off with my puny archers. I thought that squad members stayed dead permanently if incapacitated at the end, that is why I was so mad. After this chapter I realized I didn't have permadeath on so was less worried.

I had wild problems with Beatrice. She dodged all my attacks and nuked the party in one hit. After losing three parties like this, I just avoided her.

Hit her with archers. That's what I did both my runs through there and she went down easy.

Yep her weakness is high skill characters, especially ones with stealth attacks. If you hit her with chill it halves her dodge too.
