No. You get a couple of useless walls for the invaders to use against you, splattered out halfhazardly with giant holes in them - and not holes because something blew them open, but because the devs just *had to make sure the position wasn't defensible*. The level's defenses are literally set up for the *invading army's benefit and not the defenders*.
Edit:
So I did in fact loose and am now on chapter 13....I think I'm done with the game. Honestly there's no point. At any point I could just randomly loose no matter what. It has broken the narrative rules of storytelling. Meh.
I would invite you to think differently about this chapter - it is a shocking story moment that makes a lot of sense in context.
Also, there is a challenge aspect, you can easily win the first part, but the 2nd part is exceedingly difficult - the challenge is to see how long you last.
All of these units will soon return to your army. Don't give up hope
I tried to reach you once, but no, this will not happened again. I think you should give it another chance. There is no more mission designed for the player's army to be defeated.
I want to emphasis that you did not actually lose - you played the game as it is meant to be played.
You liked the game thus far, please don't give up so easily.
Bruh. How? It's actually almost picture-perfect storytelling - the heroes are on a roll, nothing can go wrong for them and then BOOM at the climax of Act 1 they get clobbered, teaching some valuable lessons. Give it another go, you'll like where the story goes from there, it's better thought out than I thought it would be.
Have you considered sucking less?
Reasons to not just tank Chapter 12.
* There are challenge objectives to survivor 2/4/6 turns. Making it to 6 turns rewards 100 Stars which is a huge jump towards researching more of your tech tree.
* Defeating more enemies in this map during the second wave can reward items, as well as experience and class mastery for your units.
* There is an achievement for defeating all of the units in the second phase. There has been a lot of discussion here in steam, and on the discord of tactics and strategies that allow you to do this, and is considered one of the more challenging feats to pull off in this game. (But disclaimer: If you defeat the second wave to win the map, the narrative still proceeds as if you lost)
As the dev said, this is the only 'forced story loss' mission in the game.
And maybe it's just me but did you miss the part where you could easily defend the castle until the enemy suddenly rolls in with several divisions of cannons and gunners? The entire point of the mission was that it was a trap to get you and the other guy to destroy yourselves at which point the bad guy comes in with overwhelming force.
lmao You mean it broke "your" narrative rules of storytelling, which is as the player, you always want to "win", no matter what.
It's a video game bruh, just because you couldn't win an unwinnable battle, doesn't mean it's game over. The game still continue because that's literally what the writer intended, which is for the players to lose. Even if you actually do manage to win this "unwinnable" fight, you really expect the game to go on a different path? No, it'll still go ahead as if you lost.
Honestly, what a dumb thing to be upset about. Next you'll complain that you can't romance the Paladin because the game doesn't allow you to, even though your PC is so nice to her. That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works.
I've kind of had a lack of motivation to play after several side quests in chapter 20 tbh because there wasn't any challenge anymore. I was just click click click click ok ya hurry up and win so I can get on to the next mission
One chapter that I really liked was chapter 12 because it was actually challenging to beat it, so I'm wondering if there are any more like it?
Not sure where read that quote. Not exactly true either.
Maybe, "Everyone is the protagonist of their own story." :P
Defeat is a bitter pill to swallow.
In some ways, games are a wish fulfillment. An escape that ( in the view of some players ) is supposed to be better than regular life - which is filled with disappointments and reversals that you can't change.
No right or wrong to it. Just the way some feel.
I have to admit, I did struggle a bit as each of my beloved comrades went down in flames.
Rak died in a small copse of trees bordering the inner keep wall - one clawed finger raised in defiance. Barnabas did a valiant last charge on the street before the Temple of Donari, " Into the valley of death charged the six comrades. Guns to the right of them, guns to the left of them... "
Definitely one of my favorite moments in the game.
That and the "friend zone" one.
Current testing of 1.0b shows a much more challenging warlord difficulty
Chapter 12 kills off all our troops but like the dothraki they somehow come back to life?
There was another way to accomplish what I think the goal of the chapter is -- we're at a port, we had ships a few chapters previously and even captured 4(?) pirate ships. So why not, after defeating the first wave and seeing the incoming second killer wave, couldn't we have the chance to withdraw via the ships? We'd still lose the battle, but no need to break immersion by reincarnating our dead as the GoT showrunners did. Could even have our main character stay behind to hold them off, so they'd be captured/etc. This isn't perfect of course, but (IMO) better.
Anyhoo... Great game, especially the battles and squad building. (but please for the love of god let us skip the dialogues as we can skip the cutscenes).
