Zweihanders or Champions?
I assume Champions are better since single target damage is more relevant versus bosses?

Champs work great to burn down a target. But Zwe's when they get past the front line can wreck supports, mages, and archers. Also the thievery trait procs on each target hit, so a Zwe can steal from three at a time. Works good having 1-2 on Stephan's squad

I see. But isn't AoE damage better done by dragons or mages? Or can Zweihanders compete with them?

Also, how do Swordmasters compare to Zweihanders or Champions damage-wise?

Swordmaster and Champion are in equal foots but diffirent champion got less skl but got heavy armor on so they can take hits while swordmaster is similar but she his light armor and focus on skl (dodge) 2 side of a coin but whit diffirent stat/armor .

Zwei is very good cause the hit the rows,if you got high str they will hit hard but dragon kinda the top for aoe since they hit twice while mage, siege cannon hit once............unless you got like 3 of each they hit pretty hard...............i think you notice chapter 12 =) for certain heavy stuff.

Bottom line is go what you like,if you like dragon more go whti dragon (if you can get some in the market) or mage etc depend your playstyle
Champions unless you don't meet the STR or other resources then go Zwei for a bit.
3 Zwei for me, with a couple gunners who shoot first to pop any front end hard targets so they destroy the mid and back lines. I also have a couple dragon squads, but their 2 slots each always kept them from shining as much. I found having 6 mages in a squad to be far more capable of one shotting then dragons not that they were terrible, they were still pretty good. . I have no champions as I just never really ran into much that needed that hard a single target damage. I also find having one Centurion to be cool at popping mid and back line healers first turn with the extended spear attack.

My MC squad had MC, 3 Zwei, 1 Centurion, 2 gunners, 1 Sentinel, and the 9th slot was for leveling up other leaders. I took the time warp item and blackbelt so I always hit first and did 25% more damage on defense. I also had the fang of duros for that extra 25 strength. So unless I had 6+ battles in a row which I'd always fully kill each squad, I rarely had to move them back and have a heal squad patch em up. Also helped my front line 2 Zwei and Sentinel had bloodlust. This was hardest difficulty with perma death.

Interestingly enough the most challenging squads to fight would have been the ones with champions in it. Not that they wouldn't get one shotted like the rest but if they did get in an attack the amount of damage they put out after several squads hit you could make me take a step back. I just didn't have squads to throw away like the AI did though so I just couldn't find a place for them really.

Thanks for the detailed report. As usual, I guess I will have to run both of them and decide for myself which one I prefer. My MC squad also has the same first two items you are talking about - but not Fang of Duros. I do like the safety of running healers, and I am assuming 0 Magic means the healers would be useless?

I only have 1 Bloodlust scroll, so I am not sure whom to give it to. I am thinking of Diana or a melee Dragon rider (when I recruit one). Does this sound okay?
Yessir, healing is useless with zero magic, but MC Revive still works just fine although they don't come back with much lol.

I've never had a problem with Diana and health with that huge pool so I don't think she would need it. Dragons also have a huge health pool but if you had a red one frontline then maybe it would work good to keep their lower pool up.

Are you sure of this?

From what I understand thievery only applies on the primary target
