I did lure out and kill the upper group beforehand and slipped a unit past them to the chest, using the teleport power to cover the last bit of ground.
I suppose if I moved close enough and used both teleport and refresh power that may have worked. But it's more reliable to just leave the group in the fort a short ways north east of the town you're defending to kill last.
the next try i lure 1 of them out at their maximum attack distant, first hit few of them to make them low attack power to not kill my other unit and left a few enemy squad at max health (so that they will survive on their turn attacking my unit) then run as far as i can to top, then use cavalry rush/teleporting for item (after they chase me on top)
Probably the best squad I've found for this is 3 dragons (or dragon riders) with 2 healers and a paladin behind them, stupidly hard to kill since the dragons have such huge health pools.
IIRC it wasn't even that valuable of a treasure if I remember correctly, I recall being disappointed...
Yeah, it was a proof of merit or something like that. Nice, but not what I expected given the nature of it's position.
