Any other games similar to this, and are actually good?
And preferably have the concepts of leading squads/armies, squad/army management, customizable troops, upgrades etc - where it's not just the heroes going to battle

I'm aware of and I think only SoC has troop management (?),

- Wargroove
- Songs of Conquest
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses (I own this and have played a little bit, but I wasn't into it at the time, and now after playing SoW I want to play it really bad but I need replacement Switch charging cable to put it on my TV because handheld screen is terrible)

I'm also following Monster Outbreak but it's unrelated. Just curious if I missed any games.

P.S. I haven't even gotten close to beating SoW, completely loving the game, just trying to pace myself once I beat it.

Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle, Shining Force. Obviously it depends on what you like about this game. The entire Nippon Ichi game list (disgaea, phantom brave, etc) are also in that niche.

Will second those recommendations. Will add in:

Brigandine - More focus on monsters and has a different gameplay loop, both the original and it's recent sequel are good if lacking in difficulty. Class system is fairly shallow. Leans towards the army side of things, though only Ogre Battle really has that same sort of style of multiple dudes in a squad AFAIK. Well, there's that one NIS game too but it kinda sucks.

Tactics Ogre - Not my cup of tea but gets a lot of praise. Leans into the gritty realism side of things, has a lot of hidden/missable content.

Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children - Probably my favourite in the genre since FFT was released. Insanely complicated class system, bunch of other stuff too. Rivals the NIS games for complexity. Character archetypes are really fun. Far from the army side of things though, you control less than a dozen characters in most maps.

Does Ogre Battle even exist on any modern platforms? The last version I was aware of was on the PS1.

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber are both great games....If you can find them. Even if you have the consoles (SNES/PS1 or N64 respectively), the game carts/disks are very rare by now. You could try emulating them, although emulation videos of OB64 always seem to be buggy, and also emulating is wrong wink. It'd be nice if Square Enix, which now holds the rights, would rerelease them, but they'd rather release a port of a port of a port of Tactics Ogre instead.
